  • David Aldridge has spent almost three decades covering sports for media outlets such as ESPN, NBA TV, TBD and The Washington Post among others.
  • The  59 year-old who for his contributions was awarded the Curt Gowdy Media Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Lagacy Award from the National Association of Black Journalists was born, raised and had his education in Washington D.C.
  • He joined The Athletic D.C in 2018 and is currently serving as its editor-in-chief.

David Aldridge is a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer, editor-in-chief of Athletic D.C, a former reporter at Turner Sports. He is one of the most renowned sports journalists and sideline reporters and is also credited for his contributions to ESPN, NBA TV, The Washington Post, and TBD among others.

David Aldridge Early Life and Education

He  was born on February 10 1965 in Washington, D.C., United States. The currently 59 year-old has kept many details of his childhood away from the public thereby making it difficult to have a clue of his parent and siblings.

As regards his educational background, Aldridge attended the DeMatha Catholic High School before heading to American University where he obtained degrees in journalism and history in 1987.

David Aldridge was a writer for Washington Post where he spent years. At that time, he gained experience covering Georgetown University basketball, the Washington Bullets, and Washington Redskins.

His career took him to cover world-class competitions that include the 1992 Summer Olympics, Super Bowl, and the U.S Open tennis championships to mention a few.

Years down the line, he found himself working with ESPN as a sideline reporter. He further had a career covering both NBA and NFL games, interviewing athletes, and writing articles with Sportscentres and ABC.

For 4 years between 2004 to 2008, the sportscaster worked with The Philadelphia Inquirer where again, he performed journalist works in covering NFL and NBA-related topics and games.

Turner Sports hired him and continued with his NBA journalism career focusing on sideline reporting and hosting shows and commenting before adding to his experiences that of co-hosting The Tony Kornheiser Show on Washington Post Radio as an analyst

In 2018, he joined The Athletic D.C in Washington D.C. Metro Area where he currently serves as editor-in-chief.

How did David Aldridge Become a Hall of Famer?

In his career as an analyst, sideline reporter, and journalist, Aldridge has gained both fame and accolades. Among them include the Legacy Award from the National Association of Black Journalists.

Also in 2016, he was honored with the Curt Gowdy Media Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. This he received as a result of being a sports broadcaster with immense contributions to basketball.

All We Know About His Wife and Son

David Aldridge keeps a low profile when it comes to his private life. As such, there is sketchy information about his wife. However, he had previously celebrated his wife on Mother’s Day on Twitter. What remains unknown is whether he is still married or other details about his intimate life.

As regards his child, there are rumors jogging around the media that he has a son. For others, they believe that LaMarcus Nurae Aldridge, an NBA multi-award-winning player is his son. This information may be a result of the fact that they share a common surname.  Other reports also claim that a man named Marvin Aldridge is the father of LaMarcus Aldridge.

As for other reports, there is the claim that LaMarcus Aldridge is David Aldridge’s cousin and not his son and some sources have claimed. What we do know however is that both men like to keep their family lives private and may not necessarily be related.

His Net Worth and How He Acquired It

There is so much uncertainty about the net worth of David Aldridge. However, many of the reports estimate his net worth above $1 million. This made this net worth from his sports broadcasting career where he began about 3 decades ago.

In his career, he rose for being a sideline reporter to editor-in-chief. His salary has however remained a mystery. However, reports claim that an average salary of a sports journalist is around $40,000 annually.

He Also Earns From TV Appearance and Video Games

Aldridge earns from other appearances such as video games where his voice was used in the sideline reporting of video games NBA 2K20 (2019), NBA 2K19 (2018), NBA 2K18 (2017).

In a 2017 short drama, How Sports Feel to People Who Don’t Like Sports, he made an appearance playing the character of an office coworker.

Height and Body Measurement of David Aldridge

The Athletic editor-in-chief has an athletic body. His height is cited as 5’10 feet while his weight and other body measurement remain unknown at the time of this writing.
