In 2009, Dream’s mother Tawanna filed for a divorce from her husband Allen. She accused the NBA player of alcoholism, gambling, infidelity, and wasteful spending of his money. Sources say Tawanna had to sell her ornaments at a point to meet up with some financial needs.
Although the couples’ divorce was a success, they could not keep their hands off each other and decided to give love another chance, reconciling shortly after their divorce was finalized.

At the time that Tawanna and Allen’s divorce proceedings were ongoing, Tawanna raised an alarm, accusing Allen of kidnapping her kids on the 22nd of May 2013 after the court had given her custody of their children.
Allen however said that he only took his kids for a vacation in Charlotte, North Carolina, and was supposed to return them to their mother on 26th May.

Dream Alija’s father Allen has faced many legal troubles. In 1997 during the offseason, he and his friends were arrested by the police for speeding late at night, carrying a concealed weapon, and being in possession of marijuana.
The NBA star had to plead no contest and was sentenced to community service. Also, Iverson was barred from coming to Bally’s Atlantic City casino after he urinated in a trash can at the premises of the casino.
