Tolvanen knew he had talent since he was a little boy. Growing up, he pushed himself to make an impact through Espoo Blues as a junior and Boston college until he later moved to Sioux City in the United States where he made a total of 17 goals in 49 games in the 2015-2016 season. His contribution to the team led to the USHL All-Rooke Team.
All his initial works got him noticed and landed him a spot to play in Finland’s national hockey team where he represented the country at the 2016 IIHF World Under-18 Championship at the age of 17. Again, with this team, his being present and his works ended the team a gold medal at the World Junior Championship.
In 2017, he further played for Finland at the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships and proceeded to play for the country at the 2018 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships as well as the 2018 Winter Olympics.
For other hockey teams where Eeli Tolvanen was drafted into NHL as the 30th pick, he started his career with Findaland’s Jokerit of the KHL, and only a month following his debut, he became the youngest hat trick in KHL history when he was only 18 years old.
After his historical play with Jokerit, he moved to play for Nashville Predators in 2018 before returning to Jokerit again on loan before making a comeback to Nashville in the fall of 2020.
