Emily Sonnett is a female footballer that plays currently plays for Orlando Pride after she was traded by the Portland Thorns FC and United States women’s national soccer team (USWNT) as a defender.
Sonnett has been playing soccer since a very young age and has represented her country at various levels while she has also played for a number of clubs including Portland and Sydney FC.
Emily Sonnett Biography
Emily was born as a twin on November 25th, 1993 in the town of Marrietta, in the state of Georgia. Her birth name is Emily Ann Sonnett and her twin sister Emma who also plays collegiate football. She attended the fellowship Christian school in Roswell for her high school education before going university of Virginia.
Emily had developed a keen interest in football as a young girl and she began playing for her elementary, High school and even university team. While playing for her high school team, it was obvious that she was prolific, netting in 113 goals and racking over 40 assists. She also won the player of the year while helping her team win the NASA 12 Elite II and the under 19 national cup.
Her player skills had already made rounds before she got into the university and she played for her university team, Emily played three seasons for the Virginia Cavaliers and appeared in 98 games scoring 6 goals in the process. She won several awards including the ACC defender of the year and she was also part of the NSCAA first team all American and the ESPN Woman National player of the year. She made the finals for the Herman Trophy but lost to Raquel Rodríguez.

Professional Soccer Career
Sonnett began her club career in 2016 when she signed for Portland Thorns FC playing the 2016-2017 season with them before going to Sydney FC in Australia on loan for a season. She then returned to Portland Thorn FC after the 2017 season where she continued to play until 2020. She appeared in 76 games 6 goals to her name. When she was on loan, she racked up 11 games with one goal for Sydney FC.
The Marrietta, GA, native was traded to the Orlando Pride for the first overall pick in the 2020 NWSL College Draft.
In her international career, Sonnett has been called up for the Under 18 and under 23 teams of the United States female team. She received a call up for her first senior game with the United States Women Senior Team on the 16th of October 2015, starting against Brazil on October 25th, 2015. She has represented the united states female team at the Rio Summer Olympics of 2016 as well as at the 2018 CONCACAF women’s Championship.
Emily Sonnett has racked up 45 appearances as a member of the senior team, having no goal in the process. She helped the team to win the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in her last competitive outing.
