Erickson Lubin, the Haitian-American boxer made his boxing debut in 2013. Since then, he only lost 2 from a total of 26 fights, recording 17 wins by KO and 9 by UD. He was handed his first defeat by Jermell Charlo in the WBC super welterweight title fight in 2017. The second defeat came in April 2022 to Sebastian Fundora in the WBC interim world super welter title.

The 30 year-old became an Olympic prospect after winning gold medals at the 2013 Police Athletic League nationals and 2013 U.S National Golden Gloves. However, he shocked many with his decision to go pro rather than join the 2016 U.S Olympic team.

1. When Was He Born?

On the 1st of October 1995, Erickson Lubin was born to Erick Lubin and Marjorie Guerrier in Orlando, Florida. He has Haitian ancestry because his parents have their racial origins from the Caribean country.

The 30 year-old wasn’t the only child of his parents. He has 6 siblings including his older brother Michael Jean Louis, who use to be a boxer.

2. He Fell In Love With Boxing At A Tender Age

It seems Lubin already had a knack for boxing right from when he was born. By the time he was about 3 or 4 years old, he follows his big brother Michael to his boxing training. By watching him train, he immediately became interested in imitating his older brother.

Henceforth, he continued tagging along. He said it was fun watching his brother train.

3. Erickson Lubin Had His First Amateur Boxing Before He Turned 9

Since Lubin show how passionate he was about boxing, so he was allowed to try it. Moreso, he was also into karate, but he stopped and focused his energy on boxing. In 2003 at the age of 8, he had his amateur boxing experience.

4. He Turned Pro At The Age Of 18

A month after his 18th birthday, the Florida native made his professional boxing debut on the 26th of November 2013 in a fight with Eric De Jesus. He went on to have high-profile fights with Cota, Charlo, Gallimore, Gausha, Rosario, and Fundaro. More so, as of April 2022, he has 24 wins and 2 losses out of 26 fights. Out of the 24 wins, 17 were by KO.

5. Lubin Ditched The Olympics For Professional Boxing

Many were not happy when the Florida-born boxer turned his back after being highly regarded as a prospect for the 2016 US Olympic team. He reportedly pens down a contract with Iron Mike Productions, founded in 2012 by Gary Jones as Acquinity Sports, but a partnership with Mike Tyson in 2013 births its name. The contract was signed on the day he celebrated his 18th birthday (1st October 2013).

According to reports, the development didn’t go down well with USA Boxing, the organization that manages American amateur boxing. They took a swing at Tyson and accused him of poaching a top Olympic hopeful.

Interestingly, the boxer didn’t regret his decision.

6. He Is Not Yet Married, But He Has A Son

It seems Lubin is not the type that divulges details regarding his private affairs to the media. This is why information regarding his love life is sketchy. However, it is speculated that he is involved with a girl named Julmarie Garcia. That they have been spotted together sometime in 2016.

On the other hand, he is pretty comfortable talking about his son name Malachi whom he welcomed with the above-mentioned girl in 2017. He is very much proud of his son as he always shares pictures of him on his Instagram page.

Most importantly, he shares a special bond with him. He often takes him along to his box training sessions. Who knows maybe Malachi would one day want to be a boxer just like his father.

7. He Earns Judiciously From His Boxing Career

The boxer is earning decently from his career, but the amount is not clear at the moment.  A fighter in his category makes between $30,000 to $70,000 annually.

Moreso, there are other avenues through which athletes make money besides their careers. As for him, he has a couple of sponsorship and endorsement deals with brands that include; F4 Studios, Dior, and Chrome Hearts among others.

Putting into consideration his number of wins since he went pro, it is possible that his net worth is not below $500,000.

8. Who Are His Boxing Idols And Mentors

Even though he has his older brother to be thankful for, there are other boxing greats he revere. They include; Floyd Mayweather, Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, Muhammed Ali, Mike Tyson, Winky Wright, and Oscar De La Hoya. He has learned the techniques and styles of the legends by watching videos of their fights.

So, he picks Hagler’s when he wants to brawl, Floyd when he wants to box, and De La Hoya when he wants to go for range.

9. He Was Nicknamed “The Hammer” For His Powerful Punches

He was nicknamed “The Hammer” due to his powerful punches. Interestingly, he gives these punches with ow both hands.

10. He Is Above Average In Height

The Florida-born boxer who fights in the light-middleweight is 5 ft 9+1⁄2 inc (1.77m) tall. He has a bodyweight of 70kg (154lbs).
