Douglas ‘Doug Hinds is the founder of Hinds Athletics, an inductee into the Cardinal Hall of Fame, and former senior manager of payment card services who rose to prominence as a former sprinter at Lamar University, Texas; and later for being one of the Canadian team members of the 1980 Olympic and later a finalist at the 1984 Olympic games where he competed at the 400 metres and 4 x 400 m relay games.

Doug Hinds while a college student qualified to compete at the 1980 Summer Olympics for Canada. However, this did not come to fruition following the 1980 Summer Olympics boycott.
In 1984, Hinds again qualified for another Summer Olympics game that was held in Los Angeles. In the Olympics, he competed in the 400 metres where he finished 24th.
He further competed in a 4 x 400 m relay alongside Michael Sokolowski, Brian Saunders and Time Bethune. Together, they set a record of 3:04.47 in their first heat and ended as the 8-place overall.
Apart from the Olympics, he also represented Canada at the 1989 Pan Am games at St. Juan, Puerto Rico
