The reports that Messi had made a €1 million donation emerged on March 24, 2020. According to the reports, Lionel Messi’s donation went to Hospital Clinic, a university teaching hospital in Barcelona, Spain which is both treating the victims of the pandemic and researching the virus.
A while later, the Hospital Clinic confirmed Messi’s donation via their social media handles and thanked the man for his contribution.
2. Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo is also one of the footballers who have made highest donations to fight coronavirus. Ronaldo, a Portuguese legend who, alongside Messi, is also considered to be among the greatest players of all time, also donated €1 million to help fight the pandemic.
Media reports about his donation emerged on March 24 as well. According to the reports, the money that Ronaldo donated was sunk into buying crucial equipment for ICUs at the Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon and the Santo Antonio hospital in Porto.

3. Neymar
Neymar has also donated massively towards helping the fight against coronavirus. The Brazilian footballer whose full name is actually Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior, donated an amazing 5 million Brazilian real (£775,000) to fight coronavirus.
According to reports in Brazil, Neymar made his donation anonymously because he did not want people to know about it. It was reported that Neymar hated the attention that would come with the knowledge that he made a donation. However, despite him trying to hide his donation, Brazilian television channel SBT eventually revealed that it was the PSG star who had made the contribution.

Kasper Schmeichel is another footballer who donated towards fighting the coronavirus. The Danish professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Premier League club Leicester City made a £20,000 donation to Age UK, a leading charity for older people in the UK.
According to reports, Kasper Schmeichel made the donation after the charity launched the COVID Care initiative in Leicester to support local response to the coronavirus. The money the footballer donated went into bringing care packages for older people who need all the care they can get while the coronavirus pandemic rages.

5. Marcus Rashford
