Fred Tillman is a yacht broker, restaurateur, and the second legal spouse of American actress, Kelly McGillis. His marriage to McGillis is also the only one of the actress’ 3 marriages that lasted for a long time.
Fred Tillman is the father of Kelly’s 2 daughters and unlike his ex-wife, did not remarry after their marriage ended. In recent times, he has, just like before his relationship with Kelly, stayed away from the limelight and fame.
Kelly McGillis’ Ex-husband, Fred Tillman, was her Second Spouse
Fred Tillman got married to the Reuben, Rueben actress in 1989 after a year of meeting and dating. Before this, Kelly was married to a man known as Boyd Black who was a fellow student at Juilliard School where she studied acting and graduated in 1983.
McGillis and Black got married and even divorced before she graduated from acting school. The wedding took place in 1979 and lasted till 1981. 2 years later, she graduated from the school.
About 7 years after the end of her first marriage, Kelly nursed the thought of remarrying. This happened during her relationship with Tillman whom she met in 1988. By January 15, 1989, she and Fred got married.
During the wedding, they both moved to Key West Florida from Newport Beach. There, the actress decided to focus on a new career. Many people referred to Fred as a ‘nobody’ seeing that he had no background in entertainment. However, his ex-wife came to his defense and stated that she was happy with her marriage with him. She had previously been with fellow entertainers and found them boring but didn’t feel that way with the salesman.
With Tillman, McGillis’ marriage lasted till 2002 meaning that they spent a total of 13 years together. It was reported that Kelly’s ex-husband was caught asking for sex from an undercover police officer and was arrested.
8 years after the end of this marriage, Kelly McGillis went into a civil union in 2010. However, just like the actress’ first marriage, it ended after a year, in 2011.
Fred is a Businessman also Involved in Buying and Selling
Asides from being the husband of a famous actress, Tillman is a businessman who has had quite a number of business ventures. 2 of these businesses have been made public and have caught the attention of fans and followers of Fred.
One of his foremost ventures was as a yacht broker. Fred Tillman is known to have been in the business of buying and selling yachts.
In fact, he co-owned a $1.5 million worth schooner with his ex-wife, Kelly which he planned on selling sometime in 1996. Unfortunately, the yacht was destroyed by fire after it was affected by a spreading blaze in a marina in Dania, Florida.
In addition to dealing in yachts, Fred and the 68-year-old actress co-owned a restaurant in Key West. Together they established Kelly’s Caribbean Bar, Grill & Brewery.
The location of this restaurant is easy to locate because it now sits where the PAN American Airways ticketing office used to be.
Kelly’s Caribbean Bar, Grill & Brewery has been in existence for many decades now and is run by the same people including the manager, Chuck Bryant.

Kelly McGillis’ Ex-husband is a Father and Grandfather
From the marriage between Fred and the actress Top Gun, they had 2 children, a daughter known as Kelsey Tillman who was born on May 24, 1990. She has a younger sister known as Sonora Tillman who was born on April 10, 1993.
The oldest Tillman daughter is an entertainer like her mother. She is a singer and also plays musical instruments like the guitar.
Fred is also a grandfather as his younger daughter is the mother of 2 children. Sonora dated D. J Wood and together they bore Atlas Owen Wood in 2016 and Harlow Wood in 2019.
It is also rumored that Kelsey has a son but if this is true or not hasn’t been revealed. She has shared pictures of herself and the boy on her social media page but hasn’t given any insight into his birth.
Fred Tillman’s Ex-wife is Now a Lesbian
In 2009, the American actress who has been nominated for Golden Globe and BAFTA awards openly came out as a lesbian. She claimed to have always been lesbian all her life as since high school she has been interested in ladies.
A year after this revelation, she got into a civil partnership with her third partner, Melanie Leis. Melanie is a sales executive whom the actress met back in the year 2000 at the restaurant she owned with her ex-husband.
The union between the women lasted for just about a year, from 2010 to 2011.
