The former stock car racing driver’s father grew up facing some difficulties and challenges which he believes shaped his life. After his mother abandoned the family, the older Hank Parker became an alcoholic when he was in grade school.
The older Parker revealed he was often left on his own so he resorted to stealing from grocery stores before his life was changed.
2. Hank Parker jr. bought his first race car from his friend, Dale Jr.
During an interview, the former stock racing driver revealed how he started racing at a very young age. He also added that his father and Dale Earnhardt were friends so Dale Jr. introduced him to racing. His first car race was a 74 Chevy Malibu which he bought from Dale Jr.
He started racing with racing go-karts in North Carolina before he moved to street stock racing at Concord Motorsports Park. He won seven feature racing events in his first eighteen starts. The next season, he began running Late Model races, finished fifth in points, and won two races as well.
In 1997, the car racer moved to Slim Jim All ProSeries. He was later named the series’ most popular driver. Parker Jr. also made his debut at the Jiffy Lube Miami 300 at Homestead in the No.78 Mark III Financial Chevrolet.
