Isaac Dogbe is a British professional boxer of Ghanaian origin who held the WBO junior featherweight title in 2018. He was born in Ghana but moved to London, England, where his boxing career began.
Dogboe deferred his education due to the rigorous nature of his career, but he took a sabbatical from boxing in May 2019 to continue his study and acquire a bachelor’s degree. He returns to the ring in July 2020.

Isaac Zion Dogboe was born in Accra, Ghana on September 26, 1994. He is currently 30 years old. His father, Paul Dogboe is a certified boxing coach who was also his trainer.
His family migrated to England when he was eight years old, settling in Kennington, South London. He was subjected to racial profiling, although he claimed he was never subjected to discrimination while attending school in South London.

Dogboe’s boxing career began at the amateur level where he won a silver medal at the African Olympic Qualifying Event which landed him a spot at the 2012 London Olympics. He faced Japan’s Satoshi Shimzu in his first round at the tournament, but he lost the fight despite being ahead by points after judges made what the media described as “contentious” and a “mystery decision” in favor of his opponent.
Before turning pro the following year, he won the 2013 Amateur Boxing Association British lightweight title.
The same year he went pro, he challenged Cesar Juarez for the vacant WBO interim junior-featherweight title which he won in the fifth round. In other to gain the full title, he defeated Jessie Magdaleno.
He went on to defend the WBO title against Hidenori Otake on 25 August 2018 at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, US. However, he lost the title at Hulu Theater in Madison square garden, New York to Emanuel Navarrete on December 8, 2018. Moreover, there were speculations that all three judges scored the fight in his opponent’s favor.
A rematch between Dogboe and Navarrete took place in May 2019, but he still lost the fight by a 12-round technical knockout. After the fight, he decided to a break from boxing to enable him to continue to study for his bachelor’s degree, which suffered due to his career.
After 14 months, he returned to the ring and picked up where he left off.

His great-grandfather was a member of the Gold Coast Regiment during the Second World War then his grandfather was the presiding ruler of Anlo State and his uncle is a prophet.

He went back to Ghana two years after he became a professional to correct the country’s perception that boxing is for people from the slums and also for illiterates. He wanted to empower the people and also teach them how to utilize everything within their reach.
In addition, he has invited and brought together British and American consulates, ministers, and ex-presidents through the boxing show he organized and financed in Accra, Ghana.
3. Dogboe believes he has to be a good role model
Dogboe believes as an athlete, he has the responsibility to be a good role model and motivate those suffering because of racism. He revealed this in an exclusive interview during the George Floyd murder protest. He also explained the essence of the Black Lives Matter movement which is a result of things that happened a long time ago and people have had enough.

4. How black magic affected him
His father and trainer, Paul Dogboe revealed in an interview that black magic was the reason why his son lost twice to Emanuel Navarrette. He also added that certain rituals that were performed in other to repair certain family relics made his son lose the world title. He further stated that while his family members insisted he continued the ritual after his son lost the first match even though a prophet had told him his son would lose anyway.
