Janine Beckie is a Canadian American football forward who at the moment plays for English Premier League women’s side, Manchester City and the Canadian national team. Prior to moving to England, Beckie played for Sky Blue FC and the Houston Dash in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). Beckie is a citizen of both Canada and the United States of America.

Janine Beckie was born Janine Elizabeth Beckie on the 20th of August 1994, in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, in the United States. As per her racial status and background, she’s a Canadian American by nationality and belongs to the white ethnic group. She’s an American because she was born and raised on American soil. Beckie became a Canadian when she opted to join the Canadian Women’s National football team.
Beckie stayed in Saskatchewan until when she was 3 years old before moving back to Colorado where she enrolled at Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch. It was here that her journey into the world of women’s football began. Beckie joined the varsity team and played for 4 years. During those years, she showed her skills, talents, and ability to play good football that in 2012, she won an accolade as 2012 Gatorade Colorado Player of the year.
Just like other famous football stars who in spite of pursuing a career in football didn’t drop out or abandon school along the way, Beckie immediately proceeded to the Texas Tech University following her graduation from high school. She joined the University’s football team the Red Raiders and played for a 3 year period from 2012 to 2015. Her spectacular performance and a fine display of skill on the front lines made her clinical finisher and scored for the women’s team. She netted 57 times thus becoming the all-time leading scorer for the university women’s team with 57 career goals. She was eventually named Player of the Year in December of 2015 by the Dallas Soccer News.
Professional Football Career
Beckie’s club career football started in 2013 when she sealed a deal with the Seattle Sounders Women in the USL W League.
Three years later, she was picked as the 8th overall in the 2016 NWSL College Draft by the Houston Dash. Beckie was allocated to the team as part of NWSL player allocation in February 2016. And 2 months later she netted her first goal in her professional debut against the Chicago Red Stars in April of 2016.
After spending 2 years with the Houston Dash, Beckie was traded to Sky Blue FC alongside her fellow teammate Carli Lloyd in a three-team exchange that included Chicago Red Stars and Sky Blue FC.
Janine Beckie featured 15 times in a Sky Blue FC jersey before announcing her departure from the club in August 2018. And this time around she decided to eye a different country in Europe, England. She moved to Manchester City FC in a deal that was made official on 9th August 2018.
Beckie has featured for the US national women’s under-18 and the under-20 national team from 2011 to 2013. Currently, she plays for the Canadian women’s national team, but prior to that, she has played for the country’s under-20 side. She netted the winning goal against North Korea in the 2014 FIFA U-20 women’s world cup to qualify the team to the knockout stage of the competition. She also scored 3 excellent goals to win the bronze medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics after the team achieved that same feat in the 2012 London Olympics.

Family
She was brought up in a close knitted family by her parents Sheila Beckie and Gary Beckie. Unfortunately, the responsibility of bringing up Janine and her three siblings fell solely on their mother after the passing of her father when she was only 7. Gary died after he battled skin cancer for more than three years.
Following the death, the family even got closer, pushing Janine and her sister Drew Beckie who is now a professional footballer also, to push even harder in their career. Apart from Drew who is the elder of the two girls, the other siblings of Janine Beckie are Jenelle Beckie and Alysha Beckie.
