Jim Boylen is an American professional basketball coach whose hard work and reputation have placed him among one of the best in the National Basketball Association. Since he made his coaching career debut in 1987, he has achieved incredible results despite the challenges he has encountered.
His most recent job was as the head coach for the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA), a position he held from 2018 to 2020. Before this, Boylen served as head coach for the University of Utah, coaching the program from 2007 to 2011 before being fired on March 12, 2011.

Jim Boylen was born on April 18, 1965, in East Grand Rapids Michigan. He attended the University of Maine where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business. He played basketball in the junior and senior teams while he was in college.

Inside His Thrilling Career
Boylen began coaching as an assistant with the head coach, Jud Heathcote under Michigan State from 1987 to 1992. Then he moved to NBA’s Houston Rockets as the assistant coach and he helped the team to win two NBA championships. He spent 11 years with the Rockets before he became an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors followed by Milwaukee Bucks.
Boylen later returned to Michigan State’ Spartans as Tom Izzo’s top assistant after spending 13 years in the NBA. His efforts helped the team to a 45-23 record in two years including two NCAA appearances. He spent two years at Michigan state university as an assistant coach before he left.
Boylen was hired by the San Antonio Spurs on June 28, 2013, as an assistant coach for the 2013-14 seasons. He won his third NBA championship when the Spurs defeat the Miami Heat 4-1 in the 2014 NBA finals. He was later named associate head coach of the Chicago Bulls after his brief stay at the Spurs.
He was promoted to head coach on December 3, 2018, to start the 2018-2019 season when Fred Hoiberg was relieved. On August 14, 2020, the Bulls fired Boylen after a 39–84 record in two seasons without a playoff appearance.
