He was born James Phillip Rome on 14th October 1964 in Los Angeles, California to his parents, Jay Rome and Jan Rome. He rounded up his high school education at Calabasas High School at the age of 18 in 1982.
Rome attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, and earned a degree in communications in 1987 when he was 23. He started professionally when he relocated to San Diego in 1990 where he began to work with radio station XTRA Sports690. It was here that “The Jim Rome Show” was birthed and was eventually syndicated in 1996 to a couple of local stations which were affiliated with ESPN Radio.

According to reports, he listed the Laguna Beach house in 2014 for $6 million, but he was forced to cut down the price to $5.5 when buyers didn’t show interest.
