Jorge Campos Biography Early Life, Family

The football legend, Jorge Campos was born on October 15, 1966 in a town known as Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico. Although everyone now knows him simply as Jorge Campos, it is noteworthy that his full birth name is actually Jorge Campos Navarrete.

Jorge was born to a mother identified as Lucina Navarrete, and a father called Álvaro Campos González. The former footballer grew up in the company of his seven siblings in Mexico.

According to reports, Jorge Campos had always admired football stars when he was young and wished to play with the seleccion Mexicana, the national football team, one day. He started playing football from a young age and soon found his footing.

Jorge Campos Professional Football Career

The professional football career history of Campos can be traced as far back as 1988 at age of 15 when he joined the University National Autonomous of Mexico (UNAM) as a striker. Eventually, after his debut with the team, he was able to make 205 appearances and scoring 28 goals.

In the wake of his career, Campos developed a unique playing style of suppleness and speediness after he switched from being a striker to a goalkeeper. However, between1996 to1997 Campos played for the Los Angeles Galaxy as he featured in a total 43 matches with no goal for the team. Nevertheless, in 1998 Campos then joined the Chicago Fire where he made a total of 9 appearances without a goal, before he moved to back to his former club UNAM in1998. In his second encounter with UNAM, Campos played a sum of 43 games for the team while he scored 6 goals.

Upon leaving UNAM in 1999, Campo opted to joined UANL in 2000, where he played a total of 17 games which was characterizes with a goal draught. Again, he still went back to his earlier club Alante in the same year and he made a total of 33 appearances which were all goalless after which he left Alante again for UNAM in 2001 and this time he made a total of 26 appearances for the team.

In 2002, Campos joined Puebla club where he played for two years until 2004 while with Puebla, he played in 28 games but he could not net a goal.

International Career

On the other hand, on the international frontline, Campos has represented his country Mexico to the best of his ability. He played for the Mexican team in the 1994 FIFA World Cup as well as that of 1998. He has earned 130 caps for his country.
