Jorge Fernando Pinheiro de Jesus or Jorge Jesus, as he is better known, is a Portuguese professional football manager and also a former footballer who started his career in Lisbon, Portugal. He played for over 12 clubs including nine Primeira Liga seasons when he was a professional footballer before he retired in 1990 and started managing football clubs.
He is one of the most successful soccer players and managers from Portugal. He is currently the manager of the Brazilian club, Flamengo, and has achieved incredibly good results despite the mixed reactions that accompanied his appointment.

It was as Jorge Fernando Pinheiro de Jesus that the legendary football manager was born on 27 July 1954 in Amadora, Portugal. His father, Virgolino Antonio de Jesus also played for Sporting CP in the 1940s. However, there is no details about his mother, Maria Elisa.
He started playing football professionally with Estrela da Amadora from 1969-1971 as the right midfielder. He went further to play for Sporting CP from 1971 to 1973 and then Atletico from 1987 to 1988. He played for Benfica Castelo Branco from 1988 to 1989 and finally Almancilense from 1989 to 1990 when he finally retired.
When he retired from playing football, he began coaching Amora FC before he moved to Felgueiras in November 1993 and led the club to the 1995-96 campaign. By 2009, he had won up to ten trophies and also reached two UEFA Europa League finals for Benfica. He also led the team to the first division title after waiting for five years with two league defeats and 78 goals and reaching the quarter-finals in the Europa League.
He achieved his 100th victory in the Portuguese league in a win against F.C Pacos de Ferreira. He was rewarded with a contract extension after his first experience with Derby de Lisboa which ended with a draw. The victorious campaign brought the domestic league cup to the club. Jesus later became the most successful Portuguese coach with seven wins out of nine matches in December 2012.
He became physically involved when the police were trying to clear the pitch during a march so he was given 30 days suspension by the Portuguese football federation and was fined 5,355 euros.
After he left Al-Halil in 2019, he was appointed the manager of Flamengo on the 1 June 2019. Even though former Flamengo players and commentators believed he was too old, his team won quite a number of matches and he was applauded for his efforts. In November 2019, his team won the Copa Libertadores in Peru. His preferred formation is 4-2-3-1.

Jorge Jesus became one of the first voices to call on Brazilian football to shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020 after he tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). He was later given a clean bill of health after his second test came back negative.
