Joshua Franco is a professional American boxer who was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He debuted in pro boxing in 2015 and has held the WBA super flyweight belt from 2020 to 2033. In the super flyweight and bantamweight divisions, he has faced some of the toughest opponents, including Kauzuto Ioka, Andrew Moloney, and Oscar Negrete.

1. He Is Currently 29 Years Old

Joshua Frano was born in San Antonio, Texas on October 27, 1995. He was raised in San Antonio by his parents, despite the fact that little is known about his childhood and family background.

His younger brother, Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez, is also a professional boxer. He was born on January 20, 2000, and is currently 25 years old.

2. Franco Has Mexican Heritage

Franco was born in the United States of America, but according to sources, he has a Mexican heritage. It is currently unknown whether his Mexican ancestry is from his father or mother.

3. He Fell In Love With Boxing As A Child

Joshua Franco fell in love with boxing from a young age. This was due to his father’s love of boxing, who would always buy all of the big fights for them to watch. He stated that they would have picnics and watch boxing on HBO or Showtime.

4. His Father Didn’t Allow Him To Get Involved In Boxing Until He Was 13

Even though he had a love for boxing when he was a little child, his father forbade him from participating in the sport. So, at age 10, he played football but wasn’t particularly interested. His father allowed him to train when he reached 13 and took him to a boxing gym.

5. He Started Amateur Boxing At About15

Franco began his amateur boxing career in October 2010 and fought at that level for a couple of years. He competed in the 2013 USA Youth National Championship, losing in the semi-finals against Nico Hernandez. The following year, he reached the finals of the 2014 USA National Championships but was defeated by Leroy Davila, earning him a silver medal.

He finished his amateur career with a record of 11 victories and 8 losses.

6. El Profesor Made His Professional Boxing Debut In 2015

Joshua Franco made his pro boxing debut in August 2015, defeating Temoatzin Landeros Castilo through a four-round split decision (SD). Over the next three years, he defeated various fighters, including Juan Carlos Benavides, Sam Rodriguez, Felipe Rivas, Marco Antonio Sanchez, and Carlos Maldonado, before succumbing to Lucas Fernandez.

7. A Brief Look At His Pro Career Achievements

Joshua Franco has won a couple of boxing titles since turning pro. In April 2019, he defeated Oscar Negrete to win the WBC-NABF and vacant WBA international bantamweight belts. He defeated Andrew Moloney to win the WBA (Regular) super flyweight title in June 2020.
