Julia Grosso is a Canadian international football player currently plying her trade as a midfielder for Texas Longhorns in the Big 12 Conference and the Canada women’s national team.  She developed an interest in soccer at a tender age, and always had dreams of playing for her country’s national team at any global soccer stage.

Her dreams came to pass when she was invited to play to her country’s senior national side despite being a collegiate footballer. Before that, she has featured at various youth levels for the Canada national team.

She greeted the news of her selection as part of the team to represent Canada at the Tokyo Olympics with so much elation. It is her first Olympics and a dream come true.

1. Who Is Julia Grosso And How Old Is She?

She was born Julia Angela Grosso on the 29th of August 2000 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada by her parents Carlos and Elisa Grosso. She is currently 24 years old.

Grosso grew up in her hometown of Vancouver alongside her sister Carli who also collegiate football for Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. She shares both Portuguese and Italian ancestry since her father is Portuguese and her mother is Italian.

There is no detail regarding her elementary education. However, she was at the Vancouver Techincal Secondary, where she was equipped with technical and vocational knowledge.  She later went to the University of Texas where she began playing collegiate football.

2. Julia Grosso Began Playing Football Early

It is pretty perfect to grow a desire for something at a young age and pursue it to finish. Grosso developed a liking for soccer when she was tender. She began to kick the ball when she was barely 5 under the watchful eyes of her family; especially her father Carlos.

3. Her Father Was Her Best Supporter 

Her father has been there right when she started kicking the ball at about the age of 4. Since from that moment forward, Mr. Carlos has been supportive of his daughter; celebrating her successes and encouraging her whenever the need arises.

According to Grosso, her dad is her number one supporter. He was the first person she called, she was selected as part of the team to represent Canada at the Tokyo Olympics. He was so happy for her that he shaded tears of joy.

4. Tokyo Olympics Is Her 2nd Major International Competition 

Even though she was named in Canada’s squad for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, Grosso didn’t feature in any games. The Tokyo Olympics became 2nd major international tournament after she was listed in the squad.

Fortunately, she got to win the Gold Medal at the competition after Canada defeated Sweden  after penalty shootout.

5. Her Collegiate Career

Julia Grosso’s collegiate career began when she enrolled at the University of Texas and joined the University’s athletics team known as Texas Longhorns. She played her first game for the team a 3-0 thrashing of Rice Owls on 17th August 2018. She was listed in the 2018 Big 12 Freshman of the year and got a selection to the conference 2nd team.

The following year, she was included in the Big 12 Team selection for 2019 and listed in the All-American 3rd Team.

6. She Represented At Various Youth Levels Before Making It To The Senior National Team

She started wearing her country’s colors with the Canadian Under-15 team at the 2014 CONCACAF championships. She contributed to the efforts of the team in winning the gold medal after beating Haiti in a penalty shoot-out in the finals.

In 2016, the midfielder played for the Under-17 team at the 2016 CONCACAF Championships, where they won a Bronze medal and got a qualification ticket for the 2016 Under-17 FIFA World Cup. She also earned a spot on the tournament’s Best 11 team.

Grosso was invited to the senior national team in 2017; playing as a substitute in a friendly match against the United States of America.

She also played for the Under-20 team in 2018. And that same year, she was called to join the senior squad for the 2018 Algarve cup and was handed a starting lineup in 3 games at the CONCACAF Championships. They went on to pick a silver medal and got a qualification to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

7. She Idolizes Christine Sinclair

Playing alongside her idol Christine Sinclair who made a fourth Olympic appearance for Canada is something Grosso would hold on to for many years. Before now, she first encountered Sinclair less than 10 years ago as a ball girl volunteer during a Team Canada game.

Sinclair is currently the world’s all-time highest goal scorer and captain of the Canada national team at the Tokyo Olympics.

8. They Say Grosso Plays Without Fear

Desiree Scott nicknamed by her contemporaries “The Destroyer” is regarded as a top-holding midfielder in the world. Amazingly, Grosso plays in that same position whenever she features for the senior side.

Scott serves as a motivator to other young players who she always encourages. She was happy to find out that Grosso is one of those young players that sees her as their motivator and encourager.

According to Scott, Grosso is a technical player, who plays without fear. She sees her as an incredible player with a bright future ahead.

9. How Tall Is Julia Grosso?

The midfielder has a height that is a little above average. She is 5 feet 7 inches (1.70m) tall and has a body that weighs 52kg (114lbs). She keeps fit by always hitting the gym.
