Julie Ertz is a distinct American-born professional soccer star. She is currently serving as a midfielder for the Chicago Red Stars under the top grade division of women’s professional soccer which is popularly known as the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). Julie is also a team member of the United States women’s national soccer team.
She has been playing football for more than a decade within which she came to win many trophies including the FIFA World Cup on two separate occasions.

Julie Beth Johnston was born on 6 April 1992, in Mesa, Arizona in the US, into the family of David Johnston and Kristi Johnston. She was raised alongside her sister Melanie and she attended the Dobson High School Mesa between 2006 to 2010.
Her passion for the game of football started since she was a little child. When she got to high school, Julie joined the Sereno Soccer Club in Phoenix, the team between 2004 to 2010 on the U13 through U19 teams. Her unmatched performance led to her be the captain of the team. Consequently, she won the state title nine times throughout her stay in the team.
Upon graduation from High school, Julie Ertz enrolled in Santa Clara University, where she studied communications. She was active in college football as she joined the Broncos women’s soccer team as a midfielder in 2010, she appeared in 20 games while in 2013, Julie featured in 22 games with at least 4 winning goals.
She recorded 12 goals in the season with numerous assists, her performance made her be named among scores of first teams such as the All-WAC First Team, NSCAA All-American First Team, NSCAA All-West Region First Team, All-WCC First Team as well as the WCC Player of the Year and College Sports Madness WCC Player of the Year. Overall, Ertz featured in close to 80 matches scoring over 30 goals for her college team Broncos.
Julie Ertz Professional Career
Julie was unveiled into professional football when she ranked as the third-best player in the 2014 NWSL college draft due to that outstanding performance she got the attention of several clubs, however, it was the Chicago Red Stars that later signed her for 2014. Her debut with the team was on April 19, 2014, when she was featured in a match against the Western New York Flash. Julie scored a lone goal for the team in that match.
Julie Ertz played over 21 matches and scored two goals in the season even though her team failed to qualify for the playoff yet Julie was named as the NWSL Rookie of the Year based on her impressive performance in the 2014 season.
In the 2015 WSL season, Julie missed out on the better part of the season in her club because she got called to the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada for the United States Women National team. She eventually returned to the Red Stars on July 22 featuring in only 11 games appearances for the Red Stars in the entire 2015 season, While The Red Stars finished second in the regular season again Julie was named as the NWSL Best XI in the 2015 season.
It was a new dawn for Julie in the 2017 season when she was placed in the attacking wing. She started off that season powerfully scoring the winning goal in the match against FC Kansas City. Again Julie Ertz was named to the NWSL Second XI for that season after leading Chicago to the semi-final, even though they lost out for the third consecutive season.
In the 2018 season Julie again missed the beginning of NWSL season due to a knee injury which she suffered during 2018 She Believes Cup, but she managed to play at least 15 games for the Red Stars in 2018 as they pull through to qualified for the playoffs which made it their fourth consecutive playoffs straight season.
The semi-final was coincidentally a rematch with the North Carolina Courage, unfortunately for them, they ran out of luck and suffered a 2–0 defeat which was their fourth concurrent semi-final loss. But yet Julie was still named the 2018 NWSL Second XI.
She Has An Impressive International Career
Julie has been such a patriotic US citizen and has made her country proud on several occasions putting in her best in every international game she featured in. she has a played several games for the United States National Women team, starting from the U14 to the U18 national team, she also played with the U20 youth soccer.
She played in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World cup in 2012 leading the team into winning the 2012 CONCACAF Under-20 Women’s Championship, during her tenure as the captain of the team while she won the Bronze Ball award.
Also, in 2013, Julie played for the U23 team in the Four Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain. The team won the tournament, thrashing England in the finals.
Julie joined the National team in January 2013, and she featured in many matches including the 2014 and 2015 Algarve Cup she was also part of the team that represented the United States at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup who won the FIFA World Cup that year and following the tournament, Julie was named to the FIFA Women’s World Cup All-Star Team.
In 2019, Ertz was invited to the FIFA World Cup In France where she helped the team to win the tournament. She was also invited to the 2020 SheBeelieves cup and she helped the US to clinch the trophy. The following year, she played for the US at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where she helped the team to win the bronze medal ahead of Australia.

It is no longer news that Julie is now happily a married woman. She tied the knot with her heartthrob Zach Ertz who is an American Football player, playing for the Philadelphia Eagles as a tight end. Thus, now bearing the name Julie Ertz.
The couple first met while they were in college where fate joined them during a Stanford Cardinal baseball game and her charming lover eventually popped the big question leading to their engagement in February 2016 at the same baseball stadium where they first met.
Subsequently, they decided to tie the knot and got married on March 26, 2017. The ceremony took place off the coast of Santa Barbara, California.
