In a male-dominated world of boxing, Kandi Wyatt boxes her way to becoming an interesting Canadian fighter with more than an average win. The 33-year-old may not be the greatest so far since Laila Ali already has the title. Yet, she could easily write her name on the sands of time as one who would fight a good fight, knocks out even good fighters, and also gain a unanimous decision win.
Her story in professional boxing started in December 2014 and has since fought the likes of Christina Barry, Maria Guzman, Christina Linardatou, Beatriz Aguilar, and Jessica McCaskill. Interesting right? Sure it is. But there is more about her and only a simple few minutes read will unbox who she is, her career, records, and her love life.
Gymnastics was the First Sport She Started But Boxing Had Her Heart
Born on 26 March 1991, Kandi Renae Wyatt was only a little girl being raised in Saskatchewan – a Canadian province that borders the United States to the south. Then she moved to Rocky Mountain House and her parents enrolled her in a local gymnastics club.
While there, she was drawn to boxing when she noticed kids training at Rocky Titans Boxing Club which was right next to where she trained in gymnastics.
Wyatt who was then 8 years old spoke to her parents and the coach and soon became a member of the boxing club and spent the next 10 years training there.
2010 was the Year She Started Work Towards Fighting at the Olympic Games
After spending 10 years in Rocky Mountain House training, Wyatt moved to Edmonton in 2010 at 19 years. There, she continued to root herself in boxing as well as working towards qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Although she didn’t qualify for the Olympics, it didn’t stop her from continuing with her pursuit to become a greater fighter. With this, she remained an amateur until she made a bold step into a professional career in 2014.
Before then, she made several records in the 15 years of her career.
- 10x Provincial champion
- 6x National champion
- 4x Ringside World Tournament champion
- 2010 National team member
- 2010 Continental Champion
