Katie Zelem is an English footballer who currently plays as a midfielder for FA WSL club Manchester United. She is also the captain of the club and also a member of the England national team.

The midfielder has previously played for Juventus and Liverpool before signing up with Manchester united. Zelem began playing football at a very tender age and after showing great skills and potentials, she joined the Manchester united girls’ centre of excellence at the age of eight.

Here are 10 Interesting Things About Katie Zelem

1. Katie Zelem was born in England

Zelem was born to her parents on January 20, 1996, in Oldham, England. Her father is Alan Zelem a former goalkeeper. Her mother works in the anaesthetic department of North Master Hospital.

Katie Zelem attended the blue coat school, Oldham. She has not revealed any information about her siblings.

2. She began her youth career in 2004

Zelem started her football career at the age of six. She joined Manchester United Girls Centre of Excellence. Her youth coach was Emma Fletcher. Since Manchester United had no professional set-up, Katie Zelem joined Liverpool in 2013.

She was named in the squad on 3 August 2013 and made her debut in the club in a 3-0 loss with Arsenal. She had a little time off before making her senior debut on 29 June 2014. She scored her first senior goals in a 7-1 win against Durham in the continental cup.

After her club retained the FA WSL title in 2014, the midfielder was nominated by the FA for the WSL Development Player of the year. Her contract was renewed in December 2014.

The contract was signed in November 2015. After two successful years with Liverpool, Zelem signed a new contract in August 2017 with Juventus, She moved to Juventus for an undisclosed fee. She scored her first goal for Juventus in an 8-0 win against Torino in the Coppa Italia.

Katie Zelem made her first appearance for Serie A as a substitute in the inaugural match on September 30 2017. She later scored her first goal in a 4-1 win against Empoli and on May 20 2018, Juventus won the Serie A title in their first-ever season in existence. Katie Zelem left the club at the end of the campaign.

The midfielder joined Manchester United in July 2018 for their inaugural season in the FA Women’s Championship for the 2018-19 season. She made her debut for the club in a 1-0 win against her former club. She scored her first goal for Man United at her league debut.

She was later voted for FA Women’s Championship Player of the Month for March 2019. At the end of the season, she was named Manchester United Women’s player of the year for her impeccable performances throughout the season.

Katie Zelem was the first player to win the award. She became captain after Alex Greenwood in August 2019.

3. International career

Katie was called to play for England’s under-15 and she made her debut in a match against the Netherlands in March 2010. Zelem was part of the England under-19 team at the UEFA Women’s under-19 Championship in wales. They were the runners-up to France at the competition.

She also represented England in the under-20 squad at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada and in 2015 she was also named in the England under-19 squad for the UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship in Israel.

Katie Zelem received her first senior national team call-up as part of a 30-player training camp at St George’s Park in September 2020.

The English midfielder has been described as a very clever and cheeky player. She is said to be clever on the pitch and has two good feet.

5. Her role model is Fara Williams

Katie Zelem revealed that she admired Fara William and even considered her as her role model. The fact that they both have played together makes Zelem feel fortunate to learn and play alongside talented players like Fara Williams.

Jess Sigworth is also a talented English footballer playing for Leicester City. Rumours have been flying around that the English players are might be a couple. Details about when they started dating aren’t available at the moment.

7. She is not the only footballer in her family

Katie Zelem and her father are not the only athletes in their family. Her uncle is peter Zelem a former professional footballer.

8. Katie Zelem withdrew from camp after she tested positive for covid-19

After Zelem was called to join the national senior team training camp at St. George Park, she had to withdraw after she tested for COVID-19.
