7 Other Interesting Facts about the American Soccer Player

1. Lindsey Horan’s Mother was Her First Coach

When Lindsey was 5, her mum edged her into playing soccer and coached her after she went through a lot of helpful books about coaching.

By the time she was 11, she came in contact with Lionel Messi‘s way of playing after her then-coach Tim Schultz advised that she watched the Argentine soccer player and she immediately fell in love.

Still, at the age of 11, Lindsey began her youth career in Colorado Rush.

She also trained with the Nike Boys U-17 team. ESPN ranked the player as the number one college prospect and she was subsequently offered a scholarship by the North Carolina Tar Heels women’s soccer team.

She declined the offer of a better 6-figure deal with Paris Saint-Germain Football Club in July 2012. In honor of Horan’s wish to move back to the United States, PSG let her go on 4th January 2016.

A few days later, on the 13th of January, Michelle accepted a deal to play in the NWSL for Portland Thorns FC. In the NWSL Championship in 2017, the club’s central midfielder earned the MVP title following her winning goal against North Carolina Courage.

In the match prior to the interview, Houghton lost in a penalty which resulted in the winning of Lindsey’s team.

4. Her Stands on Racism Has Been Questioned

After a black man George Floyd was killed in 2020 by a white policeman, many people had adopted kneeling while the national anthem was going on. Although the act of kneeling was long practiced and has been linked to Martin Luther King Jr. in 1965.

In more recent years, sports people such as soccer player Megan Rapinoe and football player Colin Kaepernick had knelt to show their stands against racial injustice and inequality. The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) adopted the act. However, some players have failed to join in the act while the anthem goes on, and among them include Linsey Horan.

Her place in supporting the injustice of people of color in the US had been questioned. In her defense, there are people who believe that she may be working against it in an entirely different way.
