4 months before his 21st birthday in 2016, he won the Vacant WBO Youth featherweight title after facing Eduardo Montoya and winning the fight by unanimous decision. He went on to defend the title successfully against Chris Avalos in April 2016, Ramiro Robles in September 2016, Daniel Diaz in July 2017, and Shota Hayashi in November 2017.
Magsayo took a break from boxing for more than a year and returned to the ring in April 2019. Upon his return, he faced Erick Deztroyer and won the bout via a fourth-round knockout. Months later, he challenged Panya Uthok for the WBC-ABC featherweight title and won the bout via unanimous decision.
Going forward, the Filipino boxer won his first world championship, the WBC featherweight title in January 2022, which was 5 months before his 27th birthday. He defeated Gary Russell Jr. who was defending the title via a majority decision by the judges. It was a dream come true for him; from a passionate child, to an amateur who won several of his fights, and finally a world champion.
