Deontay Wilder has become a very big name in boxing, but not so much about his brother, Marsellos Wilder, who also happens to be a boxer. While he might not be as good as his older brother in the ring, Marsellos only serves to make it clear that boxing is probably in Wilder’s blood.

Since he decided to turn pro in 2018, when he was almost 30, he has continued to be in the news for both the good and not so good reasons, most especially in regards to his career. We take a look at the boxer and all the interesting facts you may want to know about him.

It was as Marsellos Quinkeith Wilder that the boxer was born on 14 April 1989  in the United States to the family of Gary Wilder and Deborah Wilder.

He was brought up alongside his three siblings including Deontay Wilder. When he was still a child, his mother once temporarily left the family in the care of their father who worked as a heavy equipment operator.

He got his education from Tuscaloosa Central High School where he also played American Football. He was in the class of 2008. From there, he proceeded to Jackson State thanks to a scholarship he got. He was expected to be a fourth-round NFL draftee, but things did not work out for him.

1. The boxer was brought up in a religious family

Merseollos Wilder grew up in a highly religious family as his father, apart from working as an operator, was also a preacher. His mom and grandfather were also pastors. This means that he was brought up to cherish his Christian value.  He went to church every Sunday without missing as a child.

2. He wanted to play in the NFL

Before he decided to follow the footsteps of his older brother by choosing to become a boxer, Marsellos’s first interest was in becoming a professional American football player.

However, he decided to let the dream slip off after he was unable to make the required grade to be selected. It gets interesting to know that Deontay also wanted to play football or basketball before he decided on boxing.

3. His brother was the fighter since they were little

Marsellos Wilder was a quiet child growing up, but other kids had learned early enough not to pick on him because his brother, Deontay Wilder already had a reputation when it came to fighting. Not only was he always ready to fight, but he was also good at it and so people learned to stay off him as well as his brother, Marsellos.

4. Marsellos Wilder started boxing very late

Unlike many other boxers, Marsellos was not able to start boxing early in his life. It was much later that he was encouraged by his older brother to train with him at the Skyy Boxing Gym. Learning with the World champion was good for him, but he would soon realize he needed so much more. It was in 2018 when he was almost 30 that Marsellos went professional.

5. He lost 2 in his first 8 fights

Marsellos has ‘The Bronze Bomber’, one of the most lethal boxers today on his side, but this was not enough to make him unbeatable. He suffered his first defeat in a bout against William Deets which ended in a technical knockdown. The next fight he lost was against Dustin Long after he suffered a knockout.

6. Marsellos Wilder is a tall man

Wilder is a man who has been blessed with a body that would make it easy for him to be a part of any physical sport. He stands at a height of 6 feet 3 inches, placing him slightly shorter than Deontay who is 6 feet 5 inches tall.

Aside from boxing, Marsellos Wilder also runs a boxing and fitness training center. He trains little children as well as adults on the rudiments of boxing. Others attend the center to keep fit.

8. Wilder’s family had a tight budget while growing up

Marsellos and his siblings were brought up in a poor neighborhood of Tuscaloosa in a three-bedroom flat. Without a mother at a point, the family depended on a tight budget.

There were times when Gary would sit staring at a boiling pot of water, not knowing what he would make for his kids. Thankfully, the story has changed for the Wilder family as both Marsellos and Deontay are doing well in their career.

Marsellos Wilder is currently 36 years old while his brother Deontay Wilder is 39 years old at the moment.

10. The net worth of Marsellos Wilder is still not clear

The American boxer is living a good life thanks to the successes he has achieved as well as that of his brother. Marsellos Wilder also runs a boxing and fitness training center. Even with that, his exact net worth is yet to be revealed.

What is certain is that his brother, Deontay Wilder has a net worth that is estimated at a massive $30 million, which is mostly thanks to his boxing career as well as through the various endorsement deals his status as a great boxer afforded him.
