Michael Mmoh was born in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia on January 10, 1998. His mother, Geraldine O’Reilly, was a nurse based in the Arab country in the 1990s where she met his father, Tony Mmoh – a former Nigerian International Tennis player.
He grew up with 2 half brothers and a half-sister, who are not passionate about playing Tennis like their father. He began playing Tennis at 3, and though he didn’t like the sport because of his father’s strict training style, he has ultimately fallen in love with it now and enjoys the competition it offers.

Mmoh has won 2 ATP Challenger titles as well as 4 ITF Futures Tournaments to date. In 2016, he defeated 2 American players to qualify for his first ATP grade tournament. In the same year after winning his 4th Futures title, he was given a wild card into the Miami Masters, but he lost out quite early in the tournament,
In 2016, having won the Australian Open Wild Card Challenge, he was ranked # 200 – which was his career-high then. His father noted this but thought it was just coincidence, so he tossed another ball to him and he did the same thing; that was when his father knew he would be a Tennis player in the future.

His father is Tony Mmoh – a former Nigerian Tennis player, who represented the country at the 1998 Olympic Games. He later relocated to America to pursue his dream of becoming a great Tennis player and was ranked #105 at his prime. He moved to Saudi Arabia to coach their Davis Cup team in the 1990s – where he met his wife.
3. Michael Mmoh was named after Michael Jordan
Michael’s father actually named him after the legendary basket player and Hall of Famer, Michael Jordan – who is his sports idol.
4. His breakthrough came quite early
Michael Mmoh came to the limelight in 2015 when he was ranked #2 in the Boy’s Junior rankings as he reached the semifinals of the 2015 French Open. A year later, he emerged victorious at the 2016 USTA 18s Boys’ National Championship – this earned him a wildcard into the US Open draws.
He is currently highly regarded as one of the most promising American Junior Tennis players. He is expected to flourish and rise to the top of the game in the near future.

The Mmohs have a history of training with Tennis world A-listers before they go on to win major titles. Michael’s dad was asked by Steffi Graff to “warm her up” and she won the Grand Slam that year.
