Biography of Mike Goldberg

It was on November 24, 1964, that Mike Goldberg was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Information about his childhood and early education, as well as parents and siblings, are not available in the public domain. Nonetheless, it is known that he attended Miami University from where he graduated.

His career began with his involvement on FSB as the studio host for college football telecasts. He also worked on The Best Damn Sports Show Period as a guest host as well as on Arizona Cardinals pre-season telecasts. In the years that followed, he worked with the Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Wild, and ESPN2 as a play-by-play announcer.

His career with the UFC began in 1997 with the UFC 15.5 which is also known as UFC Japan: Ultimate Japan or UFC Ultimate Japan after he took over from Bruce Beck. Nonetheless, he still continued with other works including for NFL on Fox as a sideline reporter.

His unceremonious Departure From UFC

In spite of the fact that he stayed with the UFC for two decades, it was announced in December 2016 that the contract of Mike Goldberg would not be renewed in 2017. This was not only shocking to fans but also to Goldberg who said he did not hear from Dana White before the announcement was made.

With that, the UFC 207 which held on December 30, became his last as the UFC’s play-by-play man. Before his departure, he was one of the last remaining individuals working with the UFC prior to White taking over as President.

In 2017, he got signed by Bellator MMA and made his debut at the Maddison Square Garden on June 24.

While recognizing some celebrities before a match, he referred to Stone Cold Steve Austin as Steve Coldstone.

3. Referring to Japanese as Portuguese

This blooper happens to be interesting because Kim Goldberg is actually Japanese. However, he seemed to find it hard differentiating between Japanese and Portuguese.

4. Mixing up names

One cannot beat how the legendary announcer gets to easily mix names up. He once made the mistake of stating that CB Dollaway would get a chance to earn a victory against CB Dollaway. Another time, he pointed out that Wanderlei Silva was defeated by Wanderlei Silva.
