Morgan Brian is an American who plays football for the United States female soccer team as well as for the Chicago Red Stars in the National Women Soccer League. She plays as a midfielder for her national and club teams.
Having first appeared for the senior national team in a friendly against South Korea on June 15th, 2013, she has gone on to represent the USA women national team in several competitions while racking 81 caps, scoring 6 goals and winning the FIFA women world cup amongst other competition.
Morgan Brian Biography and Career
The American soccer star was born Morgan Paige Brain in St. Simmon’s Island in Georgia to Steve and Vickie Brian on the 26th of February 1993. She was brought up alongside a sister, Jennifer who is older than her.
At a very young age, Morgan started playing soccer and was extremely influenced to play football because the island had a big football culture. She was nicknamed Plankton after the Sponge Bob cartoon character because of her small size when she started playing football against kids who were 4 to 5 years older than her.
She got her high school education at Federick academy on the Island where she played for her school all through the four years racking up 186 goals and 95 assists helping them to win 4 states championships and getting named the Georgia state player of the year two times. She was also named the Gatorade national player of the year 2010. she made history when she became the first soccer player to be named as the National female athlete of the year for 2011.
She also played in Florida at the Ponte Vedra Beach with the Ponte Verda storms. This was where she played most of her under 12 to under 19 football. While playing with the Ponte Verda team, Morgan Brian won the under 17 and under 19 state championships.
After High school, she attended the University of Virginia where she was immediately drafted into the female football team. In her first year, she scored 11 goals and provided 8 assists in 22 starts for her team. This made her be named the Soccer America nation freshman of the year and the Atlantic coast conference freshman of the year.
During her second year, she would miss the beginning of the season because she had gone to represent the under 20 the United States female soccer team in the Under 20 FIFA women’s world cup in Japan becoming the youngest person to be in the team where the USA won the competition. On returning to the college team, she provided 7 assists and 4 goals in 13 starts. That year she was named in several teams of the season list.
In her third year, she racked up 16 goals and 14 assists in 25 start to lead her team to win the College Cup. She won several players of the year awards and was on many teams of the year list. She also won the Herman Trophy. In her fourth year, she became the fifth woman to win the Herman trophy twice
In 2015, after school, Morgan signed for Houston Dash but missed half of their season because she had to represent the national team at the world cup in Canada in which the United States won. She would only play 810 minutes for the Houston dash that season. She would also go on to represent the national team at the Summer Olympics in Brazil the following year. In 2017, she moved to Chicago Red Stars. She has signed a deal with Olympic Lyon Femini in France but the deal won’t kick off till June 2020.
In 2019, Morgan Brian represented the United States in yet another FIFA World Cup in France in which the team defeated Norway by two goals to one.
At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she helped the US team to a third-place finish after defeating Australia to claim the bronze medal.

Brian was in a relationship with Houston Dynamo Midfielder Eric Bird from 2013 to 2015. after the couple’s split, she soon began dating Fabrice Gautraut who she eventually got married to in November 2017.
She is a devout Christian and is a prominent member of the fellowship of Female Christian Athletes.
