Nathaniel Clyne was born on 5th April 1991 in Stockwell, a town that happens to be a district in inner South London, England. It was in Stockwell that his passion for playing football was developed right from when he was just a little boy.
The identity of Nathaniel Clyne’s father is not readily clear. However, what we know is that he was raised by a single mother identified as Ann Clyne. The woman trained him to be a really proactive young man who can go all out to achieve whatever he sets his heart to. This helped him a lot later on in life. In fact, he has described his mother as his biggest influence and critic.
Clyne has often spoken of a brother he has with whom he also used to play football as a child. However, this brother’s identity is still in dark. There are no records of any Clyne sisters.
Clyne’s Early Footballing Days
Nathaniel Clyne has always wanted to play football even from the time he was still very little. He would go out to the streets of Stockwell in England and try to play with his friends. He was just about 6 years old at the time. Clyne and the other children were initially not allowed to play with balls on the street, however, when too many kids like him began to show interest in playing football, a cage was built for them where they express themselves with a football.
It was inside this cage that Nathaniel played football till he got discovered by a football academy owner who saw in him the evidence of world-class soccer talents. This football academy owner was Mr. Steadman Scott. Scott owned the Afewee Academy which was renowned for helping kids realize their dreams of becoming footballers. Mr. Scott accepted Clyne into Afewee academy and the boy began to thrive.
When he turned 10 years old, Clyne was sent to Arsenal football club by mar Scott to take part in trial sessions. However, even though he performed quite well there, scoring as many as four goals, he was rejected by Arsenal which insisted that he was too small. Clyne returned to his youth club and began to develop himself some more and it was not too long before other clubs like Crystal Palace and Tottenham came for him. Clyne later settled for Crystal Palace.
Nathaniel Clyne in Crystal Palace
Clyne moved to Crystal Palace in 2008 and made his first appearance for the club on 18 October that year in a championship match against Barnsley. Crystal Palace won that game 3-0. Two days later, the young Clyne who was just 17 years old at the time, signed a 3-year professional contract with the club.
