Known as ‘The Big O’, because of his really huge size, Oliver Miller is an American former professional basketball player who is highly respected for the skills he displayed on the court in his playing days. He is also infamous for an altercation he had with other people which led to his arrest.

Apparently, there is a high rate of criminal conviction among the players in the NBA with a staggering 40% of professional NBA players getting convicted for different crimes. Oliver Miller, a once prolific member of the NBA fits in this boat of players or former players of American Basketball who have been convicted of a crime. Oliver Miller Bio

Oliver Miller was born in Fort Worth, Texas on the 6th of April in 1970. According to sources, he was named after his father. However, his mother, Annie was the only parent who was around to care for him. He is the only child his parents had and was raised in Fort Worth Texas.

Oliver Miller was one of those children who loved outdoor activities since he was very little, and even as a child he used to play football actively. By the time he was in the sixth grade, he was already playing basketball. Not much is known of the type of childhood he had, except that all of his childhood was spent in his birthplace. He went to the public school at the Southwest High school in Fort Worth and he played high school basketball when he was at Southwest. By the time he was leaving high school, it was clear that Miller was going to become a much bigger player in size and in skill.

After leaving Fort Worth, he went to Fayetteville to attend the University of Arkansas and played on their basketball team, the Arkansas Razorback. He was at this college from 1988 to 1992 when he graduated.

Oliver Miller eventually joined the NBA draft of 1992 and was picked by the Phoenix Suns. He was the 22nd pick of the entire draft that year.

Miller’s professional career in the NBA was for the duration of eight years, as he retired from the association in 2010. There were some teams he played for twice, the Phoenix Suns who he initially played with for two years between 1994 and 1994 before returning for a year in 1999. Toronto Raptors is another team he was with twice for a total of three years. He also played with the Dakota Wizards in 2003 and 2004.

2003 was the year Oliver Miller played with the most teams; in that year he played with four teams. One of the teams was in the Puerto Rican League and another was in the Chinese league.

Throughout his career, Oliver Miller played the position of Center and he is known for how well he made passes, the peak of his career was in the 1995 and 1996 season when he was averaging 12.9 points. During this time he played for the Toronto Raptors.

Miller currently lives in Arizona and he works as a car salesman for Alvin Heggs, Heggs is also a retired NBA player.

  • When Oliver Miller was four years old, his father killed a family relation and this action is the reason his mother raised him all by herself. It was not until he was much older he found out the truth about his father’s absence in his life.
  • In 2011, a year after his retirement Miller was at a barbecue when he assaulted a man with a pistol by beating him with it. This crime took place in Arnold, Maryland and he was charged with a litany of offenses and by November of that year, seven months after he committed the felony he was found guilty of first-degree assault and possession of a handgun. For his crime, he was sentenced to a year in prison and five years probation.
  • Miller, for most of his career, was nicknamed The Big O and this is because of his size. When he was joined the NBA he was 6 feet 9 inches and weighed 280 pounds. But by the time his career was winding down he was already weighing more than 300 pounds. This affected his skill as a player and was a major concern for him and he came to hate weigh-ins.
  • This basketball player has managed to keep certain aspects of his life from the public, such as the identity of his children. It is however known that he has a daughter and two sons.
