Omar Bravo whose real name is Omar Bravo Tordecillas, was born in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico on 4th March 1980. He was born to a father called Daniel Bravo Jimerez and a mother called Lydia Elia Tordecillas.
The footballer was raised alongside his two siblings Paul and Claudia. According to reports, it was since his childhood days that Omar developed a strong interest in football and decided to pursue his dream of becoming a professional football star.
Omar Bravo Professional Football Career
Omar Bravo’s professional football career kicked off in 2001 when he joined Club Deportivo Guadalajara. He was initially brought to the Guadalajara youth system by Jose Luis Real but eventually made his debut with the senior team on the 17th February 2001.
Omar Bravo did quite a lot for the team, becoming a regular face in the team’s starting lineup shortly after his debut. In 2002, he featured in the Apertura and played 15 games for the team while scoring 6 goals. Also, in 2006, Omar’s exceptional performance led the team into winning the Apertura championship title, even as he became the top goal scorer in Mexico’s first division with 11 goals.
By 2007, Omar shone on under the Clausura division as he again ended up winning the golden boot for being the highest goal scorer, and helped the club to advance to the final playoffs of the CONCACAF championships. In his first stretch with Guadalajara, Omar was able to feature in 258 games scoring an epoch-making 101 goals for the club before he moved to Deportivo La Coruna in 2008.
Following his departure from Guadalajara, Omar Bravo immediately joined Deportivo La Coruna on the 22nd of May, 2008 and then made his first appearance for the team later in August. He only made 9 appearances with 2 goals for the team, even so, he helped the team to win the UEAFA Intertoto cup of 2008 before taking his leave from the club in 2009.
In the wake of events, Omar got loaned out briefly to Tigress UANL before returning to Guadalajara in 2009. On his second coming to Guadalajara, he made 41 appearances for the team and netted 7 goals.
Again in 2011, Omar made another move to Sporting Kansas City, making 28 appearances and scoring 9 goals, for the team. After these feats, he was made the Latin Player of the Year.
However, in 2012, Omar went back to his home country Mexico where he joined Cruz Azul, and while there, he featured in 36 matches recording 6 goals for the team. He was later transferred on loan to Club Atlas in 2013 where he had 33 appearances and recording 13 goals for the club. He then returned to Guadalajara in the same year.
After coming back to Guadalajara, Omar scored 10 goals in 16 appearances. He eventually became the club’s all-time highest goalscorer with 132 goals, surpassing the previous record held by one of the club’s legends, Salvador Reyes, who had a record of 123 goals.
After some time, Omar left Guadalajara again and became the first Mexican player to play for the Carolina RailHawks in 2016 and during his playtime with the team, he made 14 appearances while netting 4 goals for the club. He now plays as a striker for UdeG of the Ascenso MX.
International Career
On the international frontline, Omar has aptly represented his home country Mexico with passion. He has represented his nation in various levels of the Mexico youth national system and in several amateur tournaments including the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.
At the moment, Omar Bravo has accumulated 71 caps and scored 15 goals for the senior Mexico national team. The footballer has been such a success story and inspiration in his career that he has received a litany of awards and titles both at personal and group levels.
