Paul Gallen’s Wife, Anne Gallen has been an important part of the life of the former Australian rugby player now turned boxer. Though she is not as popular as her famed husband, she has supported his career and was with him during the highs and lows of his life including scandals that almost cost him his rugby career in 2014 leading to an investigation.
As it is, Anne shares four children with the 42-year-old professional boxer. Here is all we know about her and their children.
Anne Gallen And His Wife Have Been Married Since 2012
Born on April 30, Anne’s year of birth is not known. Details about her private life and childhood are not well known. As to her education, Anne attended Catherine McAuley School between 1993 and 1999.
What brought her to the limelight is her aforementioned marriage to the NRL legend, Paul Gallen. Anne and Paul got married in 2012 after years of dating. As to how they met, this remains unclear.
She is a Strong Supporter of Her Husband’s Career
Anne Gallen is the silent support of Paul’s career from the sidelines. Over the years, she attended his games and also appeared on the red carpets for his team’s events. As it is, Paul Gallen is one of the most celebrated players in NRL history having pulled a total of 348 matches at his retirement in 2019 at the age of 38. Prior to this, he was an asset to the Cronulla Sharks whom he played for throughout his career and served as captain of the team for many years.
Anne has not left his side as he continued showing his athletic abilities by moving to boxing. His decision is not surprising as he started boxing as an amateur in 2012 while he was still an active rugby player. As it is, Paul Gallen made his professional boxing debut in 2014 in a fight against Herman Ene-Purcell which he won in a TKO.
Over the years, Anne’s husband faced many wrestlers including Mark Hunt, Lucas Browne, and Justis Huni. He hinted at his retirement in May 2022 after he lost his fight against Kris Terzievki as he felt that he may not have many fights left in him.
Despite this, he fought other famous retired athletes who moved to boxing including Justin Hodges and Ben Hannant. In the build-up to the fight, Hodges and Gallen nearly came to blows following the latter’s jabs about Hodge’s children.
In their clash on September 17, 2022, Gallen won Hannant in the first bout. He later stopped Hodges before he was knocked down in the second round of their bout on the same night.
Anne Gallen Almost did Not Get Pregnant Due to an Ongoing ASADA Investigation
At the peak of his career as a rugby league football player, Anne’s husband was caught in a major controversy that affected his family. This involved an investigation into the consumption of a banned supplement in 2011 by players of the Cronulla Sharks.
Over time, the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority-ASADA launched an investigation in 2014. Paul and other team members accepted the offer of the investigation to get a shorter sentence which was backdated to November 2013. Per the investigations, Paul like other members of the team suffered from mental health issues. Not only that, but it also affected him and his wife as they had to put on hold their plans of adding more children.
Despite revealing this, he did not give details as to how the investigation stopped him and his wife from adding to the number of their children as they already had two children then.
Her Husband was Paid $700,000 By The Cronulla Sharks
Following the ASADA investigation, Paul Gallen was paid $700,000 by the Sharks to avoid getting sued by the player. Purportedly, the amount was part of the compensation for the difficulty he passed through after he was dragged into the ASADA controversy.
Moreso, there are sources that claim the amount paid in compensation to Paul may not be what is reported. Despite this, many observed that he did not divulge the legal details of the settlement in his book, Heart and Soul(2019).
For now, though, this is all in the past, as he played for the team till 2019 when he retired.
Let’s Meet Paul Gallen’s Four Children
Charly Gallen
She was born on February 20, 2009, three years before her parents got married. Charly is the oldest among Paul Gallen’s children. As it stands, she has not shown signs of following in her father’s footsteps as a rugby player.
The 15-year-old and her father have a cordial relationship and as such she has been featured in many of his social media pictures. One such picture was her graduation from the 6th grade in December 2020.
Kody Gallen
Born on May 10, 2011, he is the only son of Gallen children. His father revealed that he had expected a boy at the time Kody was born. At the time of birth, Gallen was suffering from a calf injury but it did not stop him from turning up for training the following day.
The 13-year-old has taken a keen interest in sports just like his father who played for teams like the Cronulla Sutherland Sharks before his move to boxing. He plays with a junior school team where his father is often spotted with the boys at practice.
Macy Gallen
Paul and Anne Gallen’s third child Macy was born on February 27, 2015. Though most sources do not mention her and her younger sister among Paul Gallen’s children, she was born a year after his ASADA controversy as mentioned earlier. Though her father did not win, Macy revealed how caring he was to her and her siblings.
