Pete Weber’s Biography

Peter David Weber was born on the 21st of August 1962 in the state of Missouri, US. His parents are Juanita Delk and Dick Weber.  Dick also happened to be a successful professional bowler. Pete who goes by the nickname PDW is the youngest of the four children his parents have. The other three are his brothers Richard and John and his sister Paula.

Although he was born in the suburb of St. Ann, Pete grew up in the city of Florissant, Missouri and by the time he was two years old, he was already familiar with the sport. Thirteen years down the line, he had become a local champion. To successfully pursue a career in bowling, he dropped out of high school and dedicated all of his time to the sport. Prior to this decision, Weber attended McClure North Senior High School. It was from here he dropped out when he was in his junior year.

Pete Weber’s long and successful career in bowling has not only consolidated him as one of the greatest in the sport; it has also created a fortune for him. He has been on numerous tours and has won many competitions, nationally and internationally. The success he has had in his career contributed massively to his net worth estimated at $4 million.

Pete Weber has been married thrice. The first time he got married he was just eighteen and the marriage took place in 1980. He got married to a woman called DeeDee whom he had two children with. The marriage most likely failed because of the alcohol and cocaine abuse he engaged in.

By 1997 he got remarried, this time to a woman called Tracy. He has described her as the best thing that has ever happened to him as she helped him battle his addiction problem. They have three children together who have in turn given them grandchildren.

1. Pete Was Already A Top-shot At The Age Of 17

By the time Pete Weber was seventeen, he was already playing in the major leagues. It was for his sake that the lowest age requirement to play bowling professionally got reduced from eighteen to seventeen. When he was eighteen he won the rookie of the year award and by age twenty-four he had bagged 10 titles, making him the youngest person in the history of the sport to achieve that feat.

2. He Dedicated A Win To His Father

Pete Weber’s career in bowling has lasted for more than four decades and in all that time, he has won many awards, all of which are a testament to his skill as a bowler. Along with his father they created history as the first father and son duo to win a PBA competition each, this happened with Pete’s win in 1982. The death of his father in 2005 took a huge toll on him and the first title he won after his death was dedicated to the man.

3. Pete Weber Recovery From Substance Abuse

Pete Weber suffered a great deal from addiction and gambling. He was mostly addicted to cocaine and alcohol; the man once revealed that between 1982 and 1984 he spent over $100,000 on gambling, cocaine, and alcohol.

However, he sought help by going into rehab by March 1984. After getting help to stop the abuse of these substances, Pete stayed off cocaine but relapsed a couple of times on alcohol.  His true recovery however came with his third wife, Tracy who helped him totally overcome his habits and kept him focused.

4. Why Pete Is Called The ‘Bad Boy Of Bowling’

Pete is generally remembered to be one of the people who made bowling a recognized sport in the present time. He is also attributed with various wins and titles such as; being inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame in 1998 and the USBC Hall of Fame in 2002. He was also the fourth person on the list of 50 greatest bowlers in the past fifty years in 2008.

Among other things, Pete is known for how excited he gets during games especially when he is on a winning streak. This excitement has incited criticism from fans and purveyors of the sport. It is also one of the factors that led to him getting dubbed as the bad boy of bowling.

5. Pete Weber Retires From Professional Bowling

After 41 years of playing professionally as a bowler, 62 year old Pete Weber decided to hang his boots. This news of his retirement was reported on the 28th of March 2021. No doubt he was a very impressive player although he had his ups and downs. Pete Weber would definitely not be forgotten in a long time by fans and followers of bowling.
