Rachel Daly Biography

Born Rachel Ann Daley on December 6, 1991, in Harrogate, England, to Louise and Martyn Daly, the incredible footballer had a pretty regular childhood. There’s not a lot of information about her family as Rachel has kept details about this aspect of her personal life private and away from the glare of the media.

Daly began playing football as a child with Leeds United, where she won the 2009 League Cup Championship. She also played for the Lincoln Ladies for a while before going on to a spectacular college career at St. John’s varsity football team, Red Storm.

The three years Daly spent playing for the Red Storm, was a record-breaking time for the footballer. She scored 50 goals and secured 111 points, the highest in the school’s history. She couldn’t play during her freshman year because of National Collegiate Athletic Association rules, but she began playing as a sophomore, starting in all games that season, and leading the scoreboards with 23 goals and 50 points. She was the first player in the program to earn second-team honours and get named the All-America by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

During her junior year, she was the best player on the team, and in her senior year, she made a total of 20 appearances, 19 of which she started, and ended the season as the top scorer with 19 goals and 18 points for her assists. The NSCAA selected her for their All-America First Team, and she was a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy, making her the first in the team’s history to earn such honours.

Daly joined the Houston Dash in 2016 during the NWSL College Draft. During her very first season and week at the club, she scored one goal, made an assist, leading to a victory against the Chicago Red Stars, and was voted Player of the Week. In 2017, she appeared in 23 games and ended the season with a total of 5 goals. Daly renewed her contract with the Houston Dash in November 2017.

In the following 2018 season, Daly’s skill and talent shined brilliantly. During week 9, she got named the Player of the Week. She was also named Player of the Month in May and ended the season as the MVP.

The goalscoring player also has a spot on England’s National Team and has represented the country at several levels including the U-17 FIFA Woman’s World Cup 2008 in New Zealand, where they finished fourth. In 2013, after Hope Powell stepped down as the national team coach and Mark Sampson took his place, Daly was named in the first squad, and three years later she earned a senior cap, going on to score in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 qualifier against Serbia.
