Richard Eugene Piana was an American who was born on September 26, 1970, in Glendale, California. Of Italian and Armenian descent, he was brought up in Sacramento, California by a mother who was a bodybuilder. Thanks to her influence, his love for bodybuilding began when he was only 6 when he would follow her to the gym to watch her train for contests.

He gained his formal education of elementary and high schools after which progressed to college.

The interest he took in bodybuilding allowed him to try it himself at the very young age of 11 when he launched weightlifting. At 15, Rich had already made himself available for various competitions. While a teenager, he began to win trophies for himself. One of which was the title of Mr. California.

While he was still competing as a bodybuilder, Rich decided to try things out of his comfort zone. He took to acting as well as entrepreneurship. He featured in several commercials and TV series which include: Planet of the Apes (2001), Scrubs (2002), Mutant: Leaving Humanity Behind (2012), and Malcolm in the Middle amid others. As to his being an entrepreneur, Piana owned a nutrition product – the 5% Nutrition and a clothing line.

Marriage

Piana was married twice. His first marriage ended because he was accused of cheating. He owned up to it in an episode of Live With two months before his death, in which he revealed that he cheated on his wife with a woman named Amy who would go on to cheat on him with an ex-boyfriend.

In 2015 however, he was said to have married Sara Heimisdottir in Olympia 2015 just a few months after they met. Nevertheless, the marriage died horribly a year after for the reason given by Piana that Sara only married him for his money and to get a green card or Permanent Residency in the US since she was from Iceland. Piana felt used and came out publicly to accuse Sara through his YouTube channel.

Before his death, the celebrity bodybuilder was in a relationship with fitness model, Chanel Jansen. The two have been on and off for a few years.

Use of Steroids

Piana was honest with his fans and accepted in a video that he started using steroids quite early in his career as a bodybuilder. Furthermore, he accepted that the steroids were harming his body and recommended fans to build their bodies naturally.

Dead or Alive?

Although dead, many are unaware of this. The cause of his death has remained shadowy. He was said to have died in 2017 following his numerous health challenges and his collapsing which led to an induced coma.
