Ryan Mutombo is a 21 year-old college basketball player currently playing as a center for Georgetown Hayos in the Big East Conference. He is the son of a former basketballer and Hall of Famer, Dikembe Mutombo, known for his shot-blocking and defensive skills.

Ryan Motumbo; 21, was born on 28th July 2003 in Atlanta, Georgia. He is one of seven children of the former NBA player Dikembe Mutombo and Rose Mutombo.

There are conflicting reports about the number of children his parents have. In some quarters, it was said that his parents have two biological and four adopted children. However, Wikipedia reported the number of biological children to be three and four adopted. The four were adopted after his parents got married in 1995.

Besides his four adopted siblings, his two biological siblings are Carrie Biamba Motumba and Jean Jacques Dikembe Mutomba Mplombo Jr.

1. Ryan Mutombo Was Alleged To Have Been Adopted In 2016

So, there is a story connecting Ryan as one of the children adopted by the 4-time NBA Defensive Player. The description given by his father in a 2017 interview about a 7 feet 7 inches 17-year-old boy he adopted from Congo in 2016 fits Ryan’s. His father went further to state that the boy will attend a private school in Maryland and go to Georgetown in 2018.

Conversely, Ryan Mutombo attended Livett School in Atlanta, Georgia, and committed his collegiate career to Georgetown in 2021. Also, he is 7 feet 2 inches tall.

Based on this, it is clear that several sources mistook Ryan to be the 17-year-old who was adopted in 2016.

2. He Was A Highly Rated Center In His Class Of 2021

Ryan Motumbo attended Livett School in Atlanta, Georgia where he played basketball, and became one of the best centers in not just his school, but Georgia. He was ranked 94 by ESPN, and 65 by 247Sports. In addition, he was named to the school’s All-State First Team at the center, surpassed the 1,500-point milestone at his school, and averaged 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 4.8 blocked shots per game.

As a result of his performances, he received offers from several programs, including Florida, Florida State, Tennessee, Stanford, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, and Georgetown.

3. His Dream School Was The University Of North Carolina (UNC)

Ryan was always attracted by the caliber of stars that come through the University of  North Carolina (UNC). He said it was his dream school while growing up, and he knows the story of Roys Williams and other incredible basketball players that emerged from the program.

Besides, he has admiration for other programs, including Florida State, Virginia, Georgetown, and Georgia Tech. His admiration for these programs is connected to the people around him and the facilities the programs have.

4. Ryan’s Father Had Nothing To Do With His Committing To Georgetown

Even though his father didn’t play a direct role in making him commit to Georgetwon in 2021, he was an influence. His father played for Georgetown in his college days, and was one of the outstanding players back then.

Before joining the Hayos, Ryan said his father was ready to support any decision he makes regarding the program he wants to join. He stated further that even if he chose to go to Syracuse, his father will be okay. Besides, there are other important things he discusses with his father that surrounds how to stay at the top of his game.

Therefore, committing to the Hayos seems to be more of his choice than his father’s.

5. He Is As Tall As His Father

Ryan Mutombo is 7 feet 2 inches (218cm/2.18m) tall. Strinkingly, his father is also 7 feet 2 inches (218cm/2.18m). In addition, the college basketball player is almost as heavy as his father. His body weight is measure as 114kg (252lbs), while his father’s bodyweight is 118kg (260lbs).

Moving forward, the 21 year-old is his father’s copy in height, weight, and position of play.

Ryan Mutomba was one of the higly ranked prospects from his 2021 class. Despite his love for the University of North Carolina (UNC) program, he committed to Georgetown, where his father Dikembe Motumbo played in his college days.

Based on his acheveiments in high school, there is every possibility he is going to replicate that in his college career. If he continues to impress, it is likely he would become a highly rated prospect for the NBA Draft in the future.
