The ‘Shy Assasin’ has admitted that she suffered crippling shyness right from her childhood. According to her, she would turn bright red at even hearing her own name being called. Savannah further said that it was difficult for her to even hold conversations but this has significantly improved over the years.

3. She was S*xually Abused at the age of 5

The professional boxer has said that she could not talk until she was 5, which happens to be the same age she was s*xually abused. This experience left her bitter and confused for some time. Other professional boxers that were also abused in their formative years include Marciela Cornejo. Meanwhile, Savannah also lamented the fact that she did not have a bed to sleep until after the Olympics, and that was at 17. Before then, she was sleeping on the floor. Savannah said these experiences pushed her to work hard so that her family will not be poor forever.

4. Marshall Started Boxing at the age of 11

When Marshall was 11 years old, she joined a local Hartlepool Headland boxing club after admiring a boy’s trophy on the street and deciding she wanted one herself. She and two of her girlfriends went to the neighborhood boxing club, but her buddies only went once and didn’t go back. At this time, the club had no girls training, and Marshall had been actively discouraged. Although she claimed that the trainer thought of her as an annoying little girl who kept on coming back, she was adamant since she had grown to love the sport. The people at the boxing club later understood her and gave her all the support she needed.

5. She is Great Britain’s 1st World Amateur Champion

As a result of her victory in the 2012 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Qinhuangdao, Marshall was the favorite to take home the gold at the 2012 London Olympics. Marshall remains the only boxer ever to have defeated Claressa Shields, the middleweight women’s gold medallist in the 2012 Olympics.

Similarly, Marshall defeated Ariane Fortin of Canada to win the women’s middleweight gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She qualified for the Rio Olympics in May 2016 after making it all the way to the semifinals of the Kazakhstan 2016 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.

6. Savannah Turned Pro in 2017

Floyd Mayweather spotted Savannah’s obvious talent after she lost her fight to a controversial decision at the Rio Olympics and was quick to sign her as a professional.

On May 18, 2017, Floyd Mayweather Jr. informed the media that he has signed Marshall to a professional promotional deal during a press conference. On the undercard of The Money Fight, when unbeaten five-division champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. faced off against the former UFC Lightweight and Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor, Marshall made her professional boxing debut at super-middleweight. It happened on August 26, 2017, at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada.

In a four-round fight, she won by unanimous decision 40-36 over Sydney LeBlanc. Marshall lifted the vacant WBA super-middleweight Inter-continental title in Sofia, Bulgaria, after winning all 10 rounds to claim a comfortable points victory over Yanina Orozco of Argentina.

A few weeks after making her professional debut in Las Vegas, Marshall made the decision to leave Mayweather Promotions but claimed she did so amicably. When Marshall got back to the UK, she teamed up with Hennessey Sport and resumed her training with Peter Fury, Tyson Fury’s uncle, with whom she had previously worked out before her Las Vegas debut.

7. Is Boxer in a Relationship with Hughie Furry?

Recently, rumors about Savannah and Hughie Furry allegedly dating have been circulating. But neither Marshall nor Fury have confirmed this allegation. Savannah Marshall also seems to be a reserved individual who is infrequently spotted with anyone suggestive of a romantic partner.
