Stefanos Tsitsipas is a Greek professional tennis player who got his love of the game from his professional tennis-playing parents, Apostolos Tsitsipas and Julia Apostoli. Stefanos is the eldest of his siblings namely; Petros, Pavlos (Paul), and Elisavet. Interestingly, Stefanos’ brothers and sister are as well pursuing careers in tennis.
Away from his family, Stefanos’ relationship with Paula Badosa has been considered one of the most widely publicized in Wimbledon. With interview sound bites like ‘I haven’t really felt that type of connection with anyone before. I don’t mean to sound cringe or anything because that’s the reality and that’s what I am faced with,’ you will probably understand why news about the power couple is making the rounds. And yes, we have more for you about this pair. But let’s start by exploring every detail about Stefanos’ family.
Interesting Details About Stefanos Tsitsipas’ Athletic Family
As earlier established, 26-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas was born into a sporting family just as in the case of tennis players like Belinda Bencic and Tallon Griekspoor. Consequently, his father, mother, siblings, and even grandparents have all been fully or partly involved in one sporting activity or the other.
His Father, Apostolos Tsitsipas played other sports before settling for tennis
Stefanos’ father, Apostolos Tsitsipas was born on December 24, 1967, in Proastio, Karditsa. Tsitsipas was raised in the Thessalian village of Proastio. His favorite sports growing up were football and basketball, but he and his brother occasionally goofed around on a makeshift grass court playing tennis with wooden rackets. He briefly played football for the Greek national team, but at the age of 20, while majoring in sports science at the University of Athens, he made the decision to devote himself to tennis. At the age of 23, he participated in his debut competition, although he was never good enough to gain an ATP ranking point.
Meanwhile, Tsitsipas married tennis star Julia Salnikova in 1991 after meeting her while serving as a line judge at a WTA event in Athens. He went on tour with her, spent time studying tennis coaching in Berlin and Vienna for a while, and then returned to Athens to begin tennis coaching full-time with his wife.
His Mother, Julia Apostoli previously represented the Soviet Union in tennis
Julia Sergeyevna Apostoli, Stefanos’ mother, was born in Moscow, Russian SFSR, USSR, on August 13, 1964. She was a former professional tennis player who started off with the Soviet Union before switching to Greece starting in 1990.
She is also Sergei Salnikov’s daughter, a prominent Russian football player and manager.
In 1980, Julia made her Fed Cup debut for the Soviet Union. Also, she earned a gold medal in women’s doubles and a bronze medal in singles at the Friendship Games in 1984.
She didn’t play much international tennis for the rest of the 1980s in order to focus on her academics. In 1990, she earned a journalism degree from Moscow State University. After acquiring Greek citizenship through her marriage to Apostolos Tsitsipas, a Greek tennis coach, Apostoli made a comeback to the sport in 1990 and notably competed on the WTA Tour up to 1992.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is Playing Tennis as a result of his Parents’ influence
Tsitsipas’s parents introduced tennis to their oldest son when he was very young because they both had extensive tennis histories. Stefanos was introduced to the sport when he was three years old, and at age six he officially started receiving tennis instruction. He topped the world rankings when he was a junior. With his triumph in the 2016 Wimbledon boys’ doubles competition, he also became the third Greek player and the first Greek man in the Open Era to win a junior Grand Slam championship.
Meanwhile, while swimming at sea on an off day during the Futures competition in Crete, Stefanos almost drowned as a result of an unnoticed tide. His father who was on sight intervened and saved his life. As a result of this gesture and many others, Stefanos appreciates the role his father plays in his life. he has also said that his confident approach to absolutely zero fear on the court stems from the near-death experience he has at the sea.
His siblings include two brothers and one sister
As you would easily find, Stefanos has three younger siblings: two brothers Petros and Pavlos (Paul), and a sister Elisavet who is the youngest. All of his siblings are also tennis players. Moreover, the most prominent among his sibling is Petros Tsitpas, a 24-year-old Greek professional tennis player that turned pro in 2019. More so, Petros has partnered with Stefanos at the 2021 Australian Open where they played their doubles debut as ‘The brothers.’

Would you still be in doubt about Stefanos Tsitsipas’ and Paula Badosa’s relationship? Well, I guess not. In fact, so many people have claimed that the power couple is moving way too fast considering they just began their relationship in April 2023. But time is not necessarily a factor when it’s true love.
Call them ‘Wimbledon’s wildest’ or ‘most romantic sporting couple’ if you like. The fact remains that the connection between these ones has continued to attract the attention of many. Not just because of their romantic life but because they both have lots of talent on the court. As a matter of fact, Stefanos and Paula were due to come together and play in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon but Badosa’s back injury, which saw her retire from her singles second-round match caused them to abandon that arrangement.
Meanwhile, Stefanos Tsitsipas’ girlfriend, Paula Badosa Gibert was born on 15 November 1997 in New York City. The 27-year-old made her debut on the ITF Women’s Circuit in May 2012 in Getxo.
