1. Steph Catley Started Playing Soccer At The Age Of 5
Steph Catley started her journey to being a professional football player at the early age of 5. She used to play with her brother and other boys from the neighborhood and would always try to do whatever they did and even be better than them.
Most of her training during this period was however done in the confines of her compound or inside her house until her brother got signed up to be part of the local club in East Bentleigh and she, in her usual manner, followed him and while he was out training, she would be by the sidelines doing whatever the boys did.
She eventually got noticed and added to a team of younger boys and that was the beginning of Steph’s obsession with soccer.
She grew up loving David Beckham and his style of play and would dream about her future as a soccer player while training hard to achieve her dreams and better herself.
2. How Steph Catley Met Her Boyfriend
Steph met her boyfriend, Dean in 2016 when she joined the newly formed Melbourne City team. She had only been in the team for about 6 months when she got a weird message on Instagram from Dean which she had to respond to and there began the story of their love life.
They had rough times in their relationship while they played for different teams in different parts of the world, however, their love and constant communication kept them together and they were able to meet up whenever any of them could afford to travel. They also made it to important games and would watch and encourage each other in preparation for games.
Dean was a goalkeeper who played with the Melbourne City men’s team and he went on to be Liverpool’s goalkeeper as well as that of clubs like Accrington Stanley and Oldham Athletic. When Steph finished in Orlando after an exciting season there, she was looking forward to going to play in Europe although her friends encourage her to go back to America.
Most importantly though, her decision was finally influenced by three factors which included people she loved dearly and respected; Her coach, Joe Montemurro, her boyfriend, Dean who had filled her ears with tales of how amazing English football is and how much he wanted her to experience the English crowd and football and then her last influence was her all-time dream of wanting to play for Arsenal as she grew up hearing tales of the club from her grandfather who has always been a Gunner.
Steph Catley finally signed a contract with Arsenal FC in 2020 and she made the announcement via zoom.
