Willy Caballero Biography

Willy Caballero was born on the 28th day of the month of September in the year 1981. The goalkeeper was born in Santa Elena, Argentina and grew up there. It is noteworthy that even though he is now more simply called Willy, his full name at birth is actually Wilfredo Daniel Caballero Lazcano.

Very little is known about the identities of his family; he has not revealed the names of his parents or his siblings but it is believed that he had a great time as a child growing up in Argentina. According to reports, he developed a great interest in football when he was still a child and actively pursued his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

Willy Caballero Professional Football Career

Willy Caballero’s football career all started when he joined Boca Juniors in 2001 where he used his goalkeeping prowess and eagle-eyes in guarding the nets of the team, helping them to win three major trophies in 2003. He made a total of 15 appearances for the team before leaving the club for Elche.

Following his exit from Boca Juniors, Willy advanced to join Elche, a Spanish club in 2004. While he was with the team, he made as many as 186 appearances for the club. However, opted to go on loan to his home-based club Arsenal de Sarandi so as to get the chance of caring for his ill daughter after she was diagnosed with cancer.

In February 2011, Willy joined Malaga, a Spanish club where he played in the La Liga league. After his debut in the club, he went on to become a record-breaking goalkeeper as he was able to keep a clean sheet for 480 minutes thereby surpassing the previous record set by the club’s former goalkeeper, Pedro Contreras in 2001.

On the 18th of February, 2012, Willy decided to extend his contract with the team to 2016. His exploits during the 2012-13 seasons saw him get nominated as the best goalkeeper of the league. Also, he was able to feature in 117 games for Malaga before leaving the club.

Subsequently, in July 2014 Willy appended his signature to a three-year deal with the premier league side Manchester City for a mouth-watering £6 million fee apart from his other bonuses. Willy then made his first appearance for Manchester City on the 10th of August during the 2014 FA Community shield. After then, he made a total of 23 appearances for City before he exited from the team in June 2017.

Making more progress, Willy Caballero signed another deal with Chelsea on the 1st of July, 2017, where he made his competitive first appearance for the blues on the 20th of September in that year during their game with Nottingham Forest which ended up in a home victory for Chelse. He was also able to save a penalty in the round three FA cup shootout and this earned him lots of cheers from fans as well as his coach.

Wilfred later went on to make his premier league debut in the match against Brighton & Hove Albion which ended in a 4-0 away win. At the moment, Wilfred continues to play for Chelsea.

International Career

On the other hand, Willy Caballero’s international Champaign started in 2001 when he was invited to join the Argentina National U-20 team. His love for his home country was demonstrated after helping the team to claim two international titles the first being the gold medal of the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship, as well as the gold medal in 2004, Summer Olympic Games.
