Amanda Nunes has been married to former UFC fighter Nina Ann Nunes Ansaroff since 2019. The UFC champion grew up in a small town outside Salvador, Bahia in Brazil. She has two older sisters, whom she grew up with after her parents, Ivete and Sindoval Nunes divorced.
With a career record of 22 wins and 5 losses, Amanda Nunes revealed she once considered retirement but decided not to do until she regains her bantamweight title from Julianna Peña. Amanda Nunes’s Biography
Amanda Lourenço Nunes was born on May 30, 1988, to her parents Ivete and Sindoval Nunes in Pojuca where she was raised alongside her two sisters, Valdirene and Vanessa.
At the tender age of four, Nunes’ parents split up so she had to move with her mother and her two sisters. To support the family, her mother sold hot dogs, sweets, and beauty products while working as a school administrative assistant.
The MMA fighter started attending capoeira classes at the age of five following her teacher’s complaint regarding her hyperactiveness in class. She has credited her mother for encouraging her to engage in sports while growing up.
She has often mentioned that her mother used to box and she followed in her footsteps. Besides her mother, Nunes also revealed her sister, Venessa introduced her to jiu-jitsu at the age of 16.
Also inspired by her uncle, Jose Alves, a former MMA fighter, Amanda Nunes went on to enroll at The Edson Carvalho Academy where she would later become a professional. While in the academy, she earned the name ‘Lioness’ because she was the only female student among her male counterparts.
She Has Been Married to Nina Nunes Anaroff Since 2019
Amanda Nunes and Nina Nunes formerly Anaroff, got married on January 2019, barely a year after they announced their engagement. The pair dated for years and were known as the most high-profile openly gay couple competing in the MMA.
Interestingly, Amanda Nunes once revealed that she dated boys while she was growing up. She also revealed she did that because she was afraid of her mother, who is so strict yet so loving.
Amanda is the first openly lesbian UFC champion. She and her partner first met at a gym and became best friends in no time.
In September 2020, the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Raegan Ann Nunes. On April 22, 2023, they announced they were expecting another child via Instagram. They plan to name the baby Hazel Ann Nunes.
Who is Nina Nunes?
Born and raised in Weston, Florida, Amanda Nunes wife started practicing Taekwondo at the age of 6. She started wrestling while attending Lake Region High School. In 2009, Nina started training in mixed martial arts to maintain her weight following a motorcycle accident.
Having made her professional debut in 2010, Nina went on to announce her retirement in August 2022 with a career record of 11-7-0.

Has Amanda Nunes Retired?
According to reports, the UFC champion considered retirement after losing her bantamweight title to Juliana Pena on December 11, 2021.
For someone who had beaten every single woman who has ever held UFC gold at either bantamweight or featherweight, Nunes changed her mind regarding her retirement stating that she would not leave her belt with Pena.
A rematch against Julianna Pena for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight title took place on July 30, 2022, in which Nunes reclaimed her title in a 5-round dominant unanimous victory over her opponent.
With that, she became the first person in UFC history to become double champ twice. In addition to that, she received Nunes received the Crypto.com “Fan Bonus of the Night” award paid in bitcoin of US$30,000 for first place in the fight.
Moving forward, a trilogy bout has been scheduled against Pena on June 10, 2023, at UFC 289 but it has been previously stated that Pena would be replaced by Irene Aldana due to injuries.

Then in July 2019, the Brazilian fighter reportedly earned $300,000 and a sponsorship bonus of $40,000 after defending her UFC women’s bantamweight title via first-round TKO against Holly Holm.
As for her victory against Felicia Spencer in June 2020, Nunes took home approximately $500,000 and a $15,000 sponsorship bonus. Her 145-pound title defense against Megan Anderson earned her about $500,000 and a sponsorship bonus of about $40,000.
Coming from a low-income family, Amanda Nunes revealed during an interview that she bought two cars for herself and her mother with her first prize.
She also added that her dream was to buy a house and help her family and with the way her purse has increased over the years, it won’t be surprising that that dream has been fulfilled already while making history as one of the best UFC women fighters.
