Ex tennis champion Ash Barty has revealed plans to start producing children’s books after her retirement from the game at 25. It will be recalled that on Wednesday the 23rd of March 2022, the Australian-born No.1 superstar made a shocking announcement of dropping the racket for good at the peak of her professional career.
Though Ash has been a long-standing pro in the tennis world since 2010 with about 15 career titles and multiple grand slams, the player recently disclosed that she has lost every physical and emotional drive to keep up with the game, hence decided to move on as an author with her first work titled Little Ash; a six-book fiction series based on her life experiences.
This will not be the first time Barty is moving away from the game of tennis as she did the same for two years between 2014 and 2016. However, the sudden choice of producing children’s books makes her withdrawal from the game interesting this time around.
Ash Barty’s Niece ‘Lucy’ is the Inspiration Behind her Series
Ash Barty has explained to her jaw-dropping fans and loved ones that her sudden switch to writing was inspired by her niece ‘Lucy.’ According to her, Lucy is in the perfect age group to understand her storylines, more so, she finds it amazing how her niece is able to translate to her what she feels when reading a book. Barty has taken it upon herself not just to author her series for the likes of Lucy, but also to be able to read it to them, especially those kids in rural places.
The Series Will be Released in July 2022
Barty 28 cheered the hearts of many parents with the development of her children’s book series. Furthermore, she said people will not have to wait for long as the book is likely going to begin hitting the shelves by July this year. The series will be written and illustrated with the help of First Nations creatives, Jasmine McGaughey and Jade Goodwin.
Little Ash is to be published by one of America’s top publishing companies ‘Harper Collins’ and the series will feature themes like the story of the Lost Luck; a mirror of some of Ash’s tough experiences as a tennis player.

Is Ash Barty Switching to Golf?
Bart’s decision to start producing children’s books undoubtedly came as a big surprise as many people did not see it coming. Prior to her decision to get involved with producing books, rumors were already making the rounds that the former tennis star is likely going to pick a new career in golf or even cricket after retiring from tennis. Though this assertion has not been confirmed by her, Ash has done little or nothing to suggest that the claim is false.
It will be recalled that the star has always had a thing for golf and the game has spiced things a bit for her romantic life with her fiance Garry Kissick who she met at the ‘Brookwater Golf and Country Club’ back in 2016 where he worked as the irrigation technician and later became a pro in the game. His involvement with golf led him to win the championship at the Brookwater Golf Club in September 2020. The duo has revealed plans of tying the knot this year sequel to their engagement in November 2021.
The 28 years old has also been relatively involved with cricket. Her first leave period from tennis saw her playing semi-professional cricket where she did fairly well; even winning the Women’s Big Bash League in 2015. It is still uncertain whether or not Bart will only stick to making children’s books now or engage herself in another sport. Whatever the case, she seems to be happy and throwing her weight at developing literature for the younger generation.
