The UFC announced that Cain Velasquez would fight against former champion, Fabricio Werdum in The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America tournament in 2014. Unfortunately, Velasquez had to undergo surgery for his torn meniscus so the fight was postponed to June 14, 2015. Despite being the one favored to win, he lost the fight to Fabricio.
