Daniel Kinahan, the 47 year-old Irish boxing promoter is one of seven individuals named by the US Treasury Department as a part of a drug-smuggling crime group, responsible for running the illegal trade in Ireland, the UK, Spain, and the United Arab Emirates.
He reportedly runs the show for Kinahan Cartel, said to be founded by his father, Christopher Kinahan Snr, and his younger brother, Christopher Kinahan Jr works with the crime group in the distribution and sales of narcotics in the UK.
Besides him, his father, younger brother, and four others will be sanctioned by the US for their involvement with the gang.
As part of the sanctions, they would be barred from using US credit and debit cards, their money in US banks would be frozen, as well as access to their property, would be limited.
According to reports, the cartel started running as far as the 1990s in Dublin, and since then, it has been involved in various crimes including murder and money laundering. Furthermore, the gang is responsible for flooding Europe with Peruvian cocaine, while also controlling a fair percentage of the continent’s drug trade.
The Irish man, linked to a number of high profile boxers such as Tyson Fury and Michael Conlon co-founded the boxing promotion company known as MTK Global in 2012, but he severed ties with the company in 2017.
He Was Arrested in a Joint-Operation in 2010
The boxing promoter was one of 32 people arrested in May 2010 by combined efforts of police officers from Spain, Ireland, and the UK, with the then director of the UK’s serious organized crime agency (Soca) describing the operation as a “major blow” to criminal activity in the UK and Europe.
Kinahan, his father, and his younger brother were detained.

The US Offer A Reward For Information About Him
$5m (£3.8m) has been offered as reward to anyone that would come up with information leading to the arrest and prosecution of Daniel Kinahan and his member of the Kinahan Cartel.
According to US Ambassador to Ireland Clair Cronin, it is one of President Joe Biden’s top priorities to bring the cartel and their criminal activities to an end.
