- Darryl Baum, Mike Tyson’s bodyguard was revealed to be the one behind the trigger that riddled American rapper 50 Cent’s body in the year 2000

- Three weeks after his attempted murder of Curtis James Jackson also known as 50 Cent, Baum was also murdered and his brother sought to avenge his death
Remembered thus, mostly by people who weren’t close to him, Darryl Baum was an infamous gang member and killer. He was born in Brooklyn in the 1960s and though he worked as a bodyguard, he was also into illegitimate business.
It is said that from his childhood, Darryl wanted to be a businessman. He however became a fighter and got mixed up with the wrong crowd. The crowd he moved with contributed to making him a killer. Nonetheless, a couple of people believe that the reports were merely accusations and untrue.
Prior to some unfortunate incidents that occurred in the year 2000, Baum was closely linked to American boxer, Mike Tyson. He was not just Tyson’s bodyguard but he was also a close friend of ‘Iron Mike’.

Curtis James Jackson III was shot in front of his grandmother’s house in Queens. It was here that he was shot 9 times by a man alleged to be Baum, in May.
Jackson was adopted by his grandmother after the death of his mother. Reports have it that he dealt with drugs while growing up and even went to juvenile detention one time. With the street orientation Curtis got, it was no surprise that he got into shady dealings and mixed with the wrong crowds.
Also, he stepped on the toes of gang members which was reason enough to want to kill him. Given this, 50 Cent actually had at least one hitman on his trail.
Having an insight into drug dealings, it was reported that Curtis recorded an unreleased song that exposed the dealings of Kenneth McGriff also known as ‘Supreme’. Kenneth was a top gang leader.
This wasn’t the only reason 50 Cent allegedly had a hit placed on him. The members of the Murder Inc. label also had bad blood with him. Jackson was known to throw disses at their star artist, Ja Rule, and this did not sit well with the label.
Baum got involved in this when he was purportedly ordered by ‘Supreme’ to kill 50 Cent. He planned on carrying it out on the 20th of May 2000 and he went through with his plan.
When Curtis left his grandmother’s house, joining his friends in the car parked just outside, Darryl pulled up. Dropping from another car, the hitman pulled out his 99mm shotgun and fired 9 times at 50 Cent.
50 Cent received 9 shots to his hands, legs, face, hips, arms, and chest. He spent about 2 weeks (13 days) in the hospital and it took about 5 months for him to fully recover.

Darryl Baum was Murdered Three Weeks after his Failed Attack
On the 10th of June 2000, the man who allegedly attempted to kill the American rapper, 50 Cent, was killed. This was barely 3 weeks after his attempted murder of Curtis James Jackson. His murder was linked to the men who made up ‘Cash Money Brothers’. Damion ‘World’ Hardy (who was the ex-fiancé of American female rapper Lil Kim), Dwayne Meyers, and Abubakr Raheem Cooke were charged with Baum’s murder.
He was killed because he had an association with a rival drug gang member known as Ivory Davis. It was reported that Ivory’s nephew shot at and killed Hardy’s brother named Myron.
Tyson’s right-hand man was shot in the back of his head and died from bullet wounds. This was carried out on the corner of Quincy Street and Marcy Avenue, Brooklyn. Hardy who propagated the killing was said to be a serial killer responsible for a lot of deaths.
Tyrone Baum, Darryl’s Brother Was Killed Trying to Avenge Darryl’s Murder
Tyrone Baum was the brother of Darryl Baum and upon the death of his brother, he swore to take revenge for the death. Daryl’s brother, in trying to see his promise through, ended up making a lot of enemies for himself.
Tyrone ‘T-Rock’ became a person of interest for the Cash Money Brothers. On the 25th of July 2003, on orders, Baum was traced down to a construction site on Reid Avenue. There, he was shot thrice in his head and died from the wounds.
Darryl Baum’s brother was said to have been killed upon the order of Damion ‘World’ Hardy. He was sentenced to life in prison for ordering Tyrone’s murder as well as at least 5 other murders.
During the trial, Tyrone’s sister and his daughter were present at the court. The former even gave a statement while Epiphany, Tyrone’s daughter, looked upon her father’s murderer with disgust.

50 Cent’s Alleged Murderer was a Very Close Friend of Mike Tyson
As earlier stated, Darryl Baum infamously called ‘Hommo/Homicide’ was very close to Mike Tyson. He was not only a bodyguard, but he was also one of the boxer’s right-hand men. They were friends from childhood and even went to jail at the same time in the 1990s.
When Darryl and Tyson left jail, they rekindled their friendship. The boxer had made a promise to his friend and later on, fulfilled his promise. The promise was to get Baum a job and he fulfilled this when he made Baum part of his security team and right-hand man.
They were so close that upon Baum’s death, Tyson dedicated his 38-second knockout during a fight against Lou Savarese in June 2000 to him. Further emphasizing their closeness, it was revealed that the bodyguard even slept in Mike’s house.
Investigations following Baum’s murder revealed that one Robert “Son” Lyons was actually responsible for the attempt on 50 Cent’s life. The true culprit of the attempted murder is yet to be uncovered with the development of Robert’s possible involvement.
It has been difficult to get the real finger behind the trigger. This is because the rapper is uncooperative with authorities on the issue. Curtis directs whoever cares to know, to his song ‘Many Men’. In this song, there is a part of the song that gave clues to who shot him.
For the death, Mike Tyson allegedly gave a bounty of $50,000 for a hit on all the members of the gang that was connected to Hommo’s murder. However, the information was never verified by the authorities.
Luckily, the murder incident did not taint the relationship between Curtis and the boxer. 50 even acquired an old mansion from Mike Tyson which was located in Connecticut, later on.
