Demi Stokes has risen to fame as an English professional female footballer who currently plays as a defender in the FA Women’s Premier League with Manchester City as well as for the England women’s national football team. Demi Stokes was born Demi Lee Courtney Stokes on the 12th day of December in 1999 at Dudley West Midlands England. However, she grew up with her siblings in South Shields, a coastal town in the North East of England. She has four siblings; three brothers and one sister. Her brothers have been identified as Rees, Vinni, and Cole, while her sister’s name has been revealed to be Whitney.

Growing up, the footballer had her elementary education at Marine Park primary school. It was there that her passion for football was fired up. She played soccer as a child with other kids and was looked upon as a future star.

Owing to her involvement in football, she secured a sport scholarship to study at the University of Florida in 2011. However, it was in her fourth year in college that she was invited to join the England National Women’s team in 2014.

Demi Stokes’ Professional Football Career

Demi Stokes started her football career with Sunderland at the tender age of 8 when she got enrolled into the club’s youth academy where she learned the basics of the game. Finally, when she was 16 years old, she made her debut playing for the main team.

By 2008, Demi along with her teammates became champions after winning the 2008–09 FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division. However, they were defeated in the playoffs of the FA Women’s Cup by Arsenal in 2009.

It is noteworthy that in her youth career days, Demi featured in 13 games for Vancouver Whitecaps during the pro–am North American Women’s League in 2012.

Demi joined the English club Manchester City in January 2015 after she signed a three-year contract. Since then, she has been playing for the club till date alongside her other England teammates such as goalkeeper Karen Bardsley, skipper Steph Houghton, defender Lucy Bronze, to mention a few. International Career

Demi has featured in several games for her country at different levels. From 2009, she played for England in the U-19 UEFA championship, helping the team to win the trophy of the tournament in a 2-0 win against Sweden. Also, in the 2010 UEFA Women’s U-19 Championship, she was among the line-up that battled through reaching the finals even though they lost to their opponents France.

Within the same year, England qualified for the 2010 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World cup that was held in Germany, and she was able to feature in three matches during the competition. During the time in which Demi was the captain of the Great Britain Women’s team, she helped in leading her country towards winning a gold medal at the 2013 Summer World University Games held in Kazan, Russia.

It was in 2014 that Demi joined the senior England team after she was included in a 30-player squad for the annual training camp in La Manga. This training included a match against Norway on 17 January 2014. England’s match with Norway that ended in a 1-1 draw. She later scored her first goal for the team during the 9-0 victory over Montenegro which was at Falmer Stadium, Brighton and Hove.

Demi was not listed among the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup roaster. Nevertheless, the England coach Mark Sampson later named her among the team that played in the 2017 UEFA Women’s Euro qualifying games. However, they could not make it to the playoffs as they were eliminated in the quarter finals of the competition.
