Brazilian mixed martial artist, Jailton Almeida had dreams to be a soccer player but he ended up following in his father’s footsteps as a fighter. He started training Jiu-jitsu at the age of 11 before venturing into MMA. According to reports, his parents divorced when he was still young leaving him and his 11 siblings without a proper family.
While growing up, Almeida was interested in football however, he later developed an interest in fighting while accompanying his father to his bouts. In other to pursue a career as a soccer player, he tried to raise R$10,000 to join a soccer club.
He ended up following his father’s footsteps and started training boxing at the age of six and later Brazilian jiu-jitsu at the age of 11. However, due to financial constraints, Jailton had to work as a doorman and guard while chasing his dream of becoming a fighter.
In other to raise money, Jailton used to deliver lunch to his neighbor and sometimes go on a truck ride with him. At the same time, he studied in school and trained. After he finished his studies, he started working with a formal contract in a car company at the age of 18.
At the age of 20, he worked as a janitor and later as a security guard. He would work at night and train during the day.
Moving forward to 2018, Almeida picked up his black belt and was considered among the best brown belts in his state of Bahia.
