In 2013, Jakobi’s mother, Jessica Smith filed a suit against his father, Future for lying about his net worth to keep his child support payments down, and demanded that he paid more. However, the rapper claimed she was lying as he was honest about his earnings and that the payments should be upheld. He went ahead to seek joint custody of their son, Jakobi.
After several months of court hearings, the duo reached an agreement. It was agreed that both parents will share custody of their child, but Jessica would be the primary custodian of the boy. It was also agreed that the Rapper would pay $2,800 of child support as against the $1,662 he was paying before.
Again, in 2016, Jessica took Future to court, suing him for being a bad father to their son, Jakobi. In 2020, when he was 17 years old, Jakobi was arrested during a gang operation in Newton county. He was charged with a Felony for illegal possession of a firearm with an altered ID and risked spending 20 years of his life in prison.
In addition to gun charges, the trap artist’s son also faced charges relating to criminal gang activity, trespassing, and using a fake ID.
The then-17-year-old rapper was tried as an adult as stated in the law in Georgia, which states that children above the age of 13 will be tried as adults if caught for violent felonies. He was detained in prison for 3 months.
His parents, Jessica Smith and Future, were very supportive of him during his trial. In March 2020, Jakobi was granted bail, after his father, Future paid $100,000. In addition to that, he also covered the legal fees.
However, it was reported that his father, Future was not present to receive him after his release from jail.
