There are several sports that are believed to be dominated mostly by men before the last quarter of the 20th century. The world witnessed an increase in the participation of women in sports.

Because women’s popularity and involvement in sports have improved, there are a few sports only men can take part in. However, there are ladies’ sports that increase the popularity of women in sports.

Why Everyone Should Follow These Ladies Sports

1. Tennis

It is a wonder to watch ladies play tennis. Besides the amusement it gives to the spectators, beautiful women and their beautifully colored outfits adorn the courts competing against each other.

Tennis boost some of the most popular women in sports. The likes of Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka, Maria Sharapova, and Venus Williams among others have been responsible for making the world understand that tennis is not for men alone.

2. Soccer

Though the game of soccer is dominated mainly by men, women have not taken a backseat either. It is amazing to watch the women’s national teams of the United States, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, and France play soccer.

Similarly, there are individual players in women’s soccer that have set themselves apart. In fact, some of them set, broken, and even shared records with their male counterparts in soccer. The likes of Megan Rapinoe, Lucy Bronze, Alex Morgan, Christine Sinclair, Samantha Kerr, and Alexia Putellas, just to mention a few are big names in the game of soccer.

The god of soccer has smiled on them, which is why these female players are the reason women’s soccer is interesting. However, despite being almost on the same level as their male counterparts, their paycheck is way behind.

3. Gymnastics

Gymnastics is one sport that has a high percentage of women taking part in it. It is fascinating to see the ladies show their strength, balance, flexibility, and agility on the floor, vault, bars, and beams.

Its stage has been blessed with one of the highly decorated gymnasts in the person of Simone Biles. Others include; Svetlana Khorkina, Gina Gogean, and Larisa Ltynina among others.

4. Swimming

Yes, another top ladies’ sport is swimming. Over the years especially in the United States, the number of women participating in swimming events is more compared to men. Major events like the Olympics have turned women’s swimming into a sport everyone should follow.

Ever since women were allowed to swim in an Olympics event in 1912, they have featured in every Olympics tournament to date. Some of the popular female Olympics swimmers include; Katie Ledecky, Ariarne Titmus, Lilly King Cate Campbell, and Simone Manuel among others.

5. BasketBall

Women’s participation in basketball keeps increasing over the years. It is more steady in the United States, where the game has witnessed the emergence of some of the greatest women players in basketball. Some of them include; Tamika Catchings, Maya Moore, Sheryl Swoopes, and Diana Taurasi among others.

6. Volleyball

Volleyball seemed like a men’s only sport, but women play it too. In fact, the sport is known to attract more women than men into playing. There have been arguments that women prefer the game because it involves the use of more strategy and less aggressiveness.

For instance, women dominate the sport in the US. While Brazil, Russia, Serbia, and Cuba have the best women’s volleyball team.

7. Softball

Softball is regarded as a women’s sport. It is similar to baseball which is played by men. Well, it is very popular in the United States. Some of the teams include; Chicago Bandits, USSSA Pride, and Kentucky Bourbons among others.

8. Golf

Golf is another ladies’ sport that you should follow. Even though women’s golf is not popular like men’s golf, there are women who did not only build a career out of it but also made names for themselves.

Some of the current popular female golfers are Jin Young Ko, Lydia Ko, Patty Tavatanakit, Nelly Korda, and Danielle Kang among others.

9. Hockey

Hockey is more popular in the United States and Canada, where there is a Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). Some of the hockey teams include; Boston Pride, Buffalo Beauts, Connecticut Whale, Metropolitan Riveters, Minnesota Whitecaps, and the Toronto Six.

10. Wrestling

Many women have made history by participating in the American professional wrestling promotion. The word ‘Diva’ was used in the 1990s to refer to female performers. In 2016, women superstars or just superstars replaced the word.

Superstars like the Fabulous Moolah, Judy Grable, Chyna, and Trish Stratus are often regarded as the pioneers of the sport. Some of these wrestlers have also appeared on the cover of Playboy.

The current WWE Raw Women’s Championship titleholder is Becky Lynch. Forbes also listed her in 2020 as the sixth highest-paid WWE wrestler and the highest woman with a salary of $3.1 million.
