Latane Brown married famous car racer, Dale Earnhardt at the age of 17 in 1968. The pair were barely married for two years before they parted ways. Before the marriage ended, they welcomed a child together.
Following her separation from the car racer, she went on to marry Jackie Lynn Key, and together they raised their only child, Janene until he passed in 2007. Dale Earnhardt’s ex-wife, Latane also died at the age of 70 on July 10, 2021.
Who is Latane Brown?
Dale Earnhardt’s first wife was born on November 17, 1951. She was raised alongside her three siblings by her parents, Hoyt Allen Brown and Robbie Crook Brown in Cabarrus County. Her siblings include Terry Blaine Brown, Gary Brown, and Melitta Laine Brown Spry.
Her father worked in the army while her mother, Robbie worked as a nursing assistant at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks before she passed on April 1, 2009.

Latane Brown and Dale Earnhardt married when they were both 17 in 1968. During the marriage, they welcomed their only child, Kerry. Sadly, the marriage ended two years later in 1970.

Latane’s husband used to work as a Restaurant Manager for the Hardee’s restaurants. Besides that, he was also known as an avid golfer and fisher before he died on March 15 2007 at Northeast Medical Center after battling a lengthy illness.

Latane Brown’s first son Kerry shares a striking resemblance with his father, Dale. Although Dale was absent during his formative years, Kerry did not only look like him but also followed his footsteps career-wise.
Kerry dropped out of school to start a family with Rene before he decided to focus on his career. He then married Rene in 1999 they shared a daughter, Kayla. The pair also had two sons: Bobby and Jeffrey. Her grandson Bobby and his wife Kimberly are parents to Brylon and Kylianne Earnhardt.
As for her daughter, Janene, she also has children with her partner Tamara.
Her grandchildren, Jeffrey and Bobby (through Kerry) are the fourth generations of Earnhardt in professional motorsports. Jeffrey started racing in 2007 and he is currently competing in NASCAR Xfinity.
Her Ex-husband was Killed in a Car Crash
Latane Brown’s ex-husband, Dale Earnhardt was involved in a three-car crash during the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway on February 18, 2001. An autopsy was later conducted and it was revealed that the famed car racer sustained a fatal basilar skull fracture.
Before he died, he was known as one of the most successful drivers in NASCAR history. He won more than 76 NASCAR Cup races and had a record-tying seven Cup Championships.
Her second husband, Jackie Lynn Key also passed at the age of 56 on March 15, 2007.
Her Eldest Son was Sued by His Stepmother in 2016
Kerry Earnhardt’s stepmother, Teresa Earnhardt sued him for using the Earnhardt name with his wife while they were planning to market a line of homes and furniture.
Teresa later won an appeal that required the US Trademark Trial and Appeal Board to clarify whether Brown’s son should use the name in his ‘Te Earnhardt Collection‘ or not.
Kerry’s father Dale was keen on family business and so he hired his family members to work on his race teams and his race teams and his shops and other business ventures as well. Contrary to what he believed his wife tends to share different views.
Besides Kerry, Teresa has also been in the news for battling over ownership with Dale Jr. Earnhardt. Being Dale’s wife until his death, Teresa is the caretaker of his property and asset.
Where is Latane Brown Now?
Latane Brown died on July 10, 2021, at the age of 70 at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel. She was a doting mother to her two children and her fur baby, Bailey. She would be remembered for supporting her children’s dreams. Reports say she was very instrumental in the success of her family.
