He was born Lucas Francois Bernard Hernandez on February 14, 1996, to Jean-Francois Hernandez and Py Laurence in Marseille, France as the older of two brothers. His father was also a soccer star who played for a number of clubs including Athletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano from where he retired in 2002.
Although Lucas started his earliest life started in France, the family found their way to start afresh in Spain after his football player’s father was transferred to a Spanish Club, Compostela.
Lucas and his younger brother Theo were later visited by a new reality after they were deserted by their father at a very young age. However, the brothers still had their mother and a game they loved – football! Their journey of the two brothers to becoming professional footballers had nothing to do with their father who left when Lucas was five and his brother was three.
Lucas found his way into the youth team of Athletico Madrid where his skills earned him the attention of French coach Didier Deschamps who would later include his name in the national team and the 2018 World Cup.

His football journey started in Rayo Majadahonda between 2005-2007 before proceeding to Atletico Madrid in 2007 at the age of 11.
In 2014, he began his Senior career in Atletico Madrid where he continued as a defender for 5 seasons. He made his foremost appearance in the UEFA Champions League in 2016 after replacing an injured Diego Godin.
As a defender in the Club, he added to the 3 goals against SD Huesa in an away match on January 19, 2019. The goal became his first as a professional player.
Having passed through the Atletico Madrid Academy and playing for the team since the beginning of his career, Lucas’ transfer was confirmed in March 2019.

In 2012, Hernandez began his journey to playing for France’s team. He played for the country’s under-17 team. He made his first appearance in a friendly match against Italy on 6 March. He git this call to serve as a replacement to Benjamin Mendy and Jordan Amavi who were both called ahead of him but suffered injuries.
He made it to the under-18 team in 2014 and later under-19, under-20, and under-21 between 2015-2017.
In the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Hernandez played a vital role as a defender for the France team having featured in all the country’s games of the competition.
Hernandez has since the beginning of his professional career appeared in more than a hundred games and still counting. He’s been decorated with several honors as part of a team and an individual. Before they got married, there was a case of domestic abuse against Lucas which led to a restraining order against him not to see her. The couple was barred from seeing each other for six months. That, however, did not stop them from getting married only four months in. Their marriage ceremony held in Las Vegas and then they proceeded to the Bahamas to celebrate their honeymoon.
After their return, they were arrested and slapped with community service after which their six months restraining order continued. He spent a day behind bars after his arrest.
