An example of this phenomenon can be found in the Vick brothers who are one of the most prolific players of football. The younger of the two, Marcus Vick has had a tumultuous ride throughout his career, to learn more about Marcus keep reading.
Marcus Vick Biography (Age)
On the 20th of March, 1984 Marcus was born into a family of five, with his three older siblings and two parents. His mother, Brenda Vick, and father, Michael Boddie got married in 1986 after all four of their children had been born. But all four of them kept their mother’s maiden name as their surname.
Marcus Vick was born in Newport News in Virginia and this was where he grew up as well. The area he lived is known for the heavy criminal activity that goes on there and he did not have a lot of adult supervision as a child, with his father constantly away on work trips while his mother worked hard to provide for her family by taking any job she could find.
Warwick High school was where he earned his high school diploma and this was where he began to hone his skills as a football player. While at Warwick, Tommy Reamon was the team’s coach and Vick had the opportunity to be coached by him. Reamon is the same man that coached his brother and cousin, two men who went on to play in the NFL.
His Career
Marcus Vick’s career began with his enrollment at Virginia Tech in 2002. This university was not his top choice especially as he had offers from other top schools in the country. As a quarterback, Marcus has pretty impressive stats and this made him a viable choice for a number of schools that were looking to upgrade their football team. Vick eventually chose to enroll at Virginia Tech.
In his first year at Virginia Tech, he was not allowed to play and was only allowed to wear the team’s jersey for each game while he was placed on the bench. By the next year, he was put in seven games, where he displayed his speed and this helped with the university’s games of that year. He played for the university for three years until he was kicked off the university’s team.
This action occurred on the grounds of the numerous charges that had been made against him. Some of these charges were traffic offenses, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and the assault of a minor.
Before he had to leave the university’s football team, he had already played 24 games and in these 24 games, Vick had scored 19 touchdowns, threw over two thousand yards and had pulled 15 interceptions. His criminal reputation, however, preceded him and it was the major cause of the downward spiral he experienced in his career.
Marcus Vick had to wait for one year after graduating from Virginia Tech before he was eligible for the NFL draft. But no team trusted him enough to pick him during the draft, so he chooses to work as a free agent and he got signed to the Miami Dolphins but played with them for one season and after that season was over, the Dolphins chose not to sign him up once more.
He has continued to have run-ins with the law and cannot seem to stay out of trouble.
What Is His Net Worth?
With a career in football that has not lasted and the rate at which he keeps getting into trouble, Marcus Vick wasn’t able to earn as much as he could from his career as a footballer. His propensity for trouble has scared off not just teams but also any type of sponsor. This has affected his net worth which is estimated at only $1 million. If he had maintained a good career, he would have much higher earnings which would mean a higher net worth.
